The Bears’ O-line just got ripped to shreds, and it wasn’t pretty. One former NFL star’s absolutely fuming over what went down, and let’s just say, he didn’t hold back. If you thought Sunday’s game was rough, wait till you hear this breakdown.

“Atrocious!” Jeff Saturday goes off on the Bears’ O-Line after Caleb Williams takes a beating. In a sit-down interview on Get Up ESPN, Saturday fired off: “The Texans are playing much better, but in the end, if people blitz him, it’s done, like you have no shot. People are getting rolled up—and when I tell you rolled up, getting run over in the interior of the line. And you can’t just turn it open to the inside portion of the quarter.” Sunday’s game was a nightmare for the Bears and a harsh initiation for Williams. The rookie got sacked a jaw-dropping seven times in their 19-13 loss to Houston.

Saturday hammered home, emphasizing the mess. “If you wanna make Tom Brady or Payton Manning rush him up the middle… we are in significant trouble. And Belichick’s right about this: at some point you gotta block from the inside out, and build a team from the inside out. They need some help internally.” The former champ’s right—without a solid O-line, even the best QBs are doomed.

The Oklahoma Sooners’ standout, who took a brutal beating, asserted, “I’m a little bruised up. I took a couple hits.” The rookie’s NFL baptism by fire saw him face the Texans’ relentless rushers, including Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson Jr. After his first loss, Williams is hitting the ice tubs hard to recover. Chicago’s offseason moves didn’t fix the O-line woes. Despite upgrading around the rookie QB, the interior’s still a sieve. Bears’ HC Matt Eberflus agreed, “We’ve got to do a great job with the O-line, tight ends, backs… Again, it’s everybody, so we’ve got to clean that up.”

Caleb Williams’ game unraveled in the second half. His passer rating plummeted from 91.9 in the first half to a grim 21.6. The QB couldn’t handle the blitz, posting a 4.9 rating—historically the worst in Next Gen Stats’ history. “He has to be careful with the football after he gets out there,” Eberflus advised.

With the Bears’ O-line allowing 28 QB pressures and giving up the most sacks since Week 17, 2022, it’s clear they’ve got major issues. But enough about the offense. What’s up with the defense?

Chicago Bears’ defense delivered

The Bears’ defense did a great job in Sunday’s game! They made key halftime adjustments, slowing down the Texans’ offense for most of the second half.

Chicago’s D finished strong with three sacks, four QB hits, and six tackles for loss. There also was a crucial forced fumble late in the game. Despite their best efforts, including a late game-changer that gave Caleb Williams a chance to drive for the win with 1:37 left, the Bears couldn’t capitalize. “There are very few easy throws to get Williams into a rhythm,” noted ESPN Stats and Info, alluding to the offense’s lack of creativity. HC Matt Eberflus’ crew did try, but the magic from Week 1 against the Titans didn’t materialize.

Chicago’s D showed promise, frustrating even the top offenses. But until the offense steps up and coaching issues get sorted, the Bears will stay stuck in potential.
