The New England Patriots suffered another humiliating defeat against the Indianapolis Colts, bringing their league standing down to 2-8. For head coach Bill Belichick, this season matches his worst performance, reminiscent of his inaugural season with the Patriots back in 2000.

The Patriots are grappling with numerous issues. Their primary concern revolves around their quarterback, Mac Jones, who has been out of form. Belichick’s decision to bench Jones during the game against the Colts has raised concerns because of the limited available options. The uncertainty surrounding the selection of the team’s next quarterback ligers heavy on the team.

Who will be the Pats’ QB?

This is not the first time Jones has been benched this season. Against the Colts, Jones played one of the worst games of his career, completing just 15 of 20 passes for 170 yards. In the first half, the Colts sacked him five times. Backup quarterback Bailey Zappe replaced Jones with 1:52 remaining in the game. However, Zappe could not produce any impressive results as well.

When questioned about his decision to bench Jones, Belichick said, “Look, I made the decision, that’s what it was.” It appears that even Belichick doesn’t have an answer for their QB crisis. This is further evident from his statement about selecting the quarterback for the next game: “We’ll deal with next week.” With the disappointing performance from both quarterbacks, it is now uncertain who will be their next QB.

Will Bill Belichick give a chance to Grier?

In the last three games, the Patriots have only faced defeat. Throughout the current season, they have crossed the 20-point mark only once. This highlights the poor performance of the quarterbacks and the offense throughout this season. Jones and Zappe failed to lead them to victory. Now the team’s only other QB option is in the form of Will Grier.

In September, the Patriots signed Grier, and he has been serving as their third quarterback. However, since 2019, Grier has not had an opportunity to play in a regular-season game. With no on-field experience, it is hard to say whether Grier will be able to hold the fort or not.

On Patriots All-Access, when Belichick was asked about Grier, he said, “When you’re new and you haven’t been here in training camp and had the full background of OTAs and training camp and a chance really to run our core plays, it’s just a lot to catch up on”. This indicates that, at least for now, Belichick is not considering Grier. What are your thoughts on the QB condition for the Pats? Let us know in the comments below.
