It’s the regular season finale for the Philadelphia Eagles, and the dark clouds of quarterback injuries are surfacing over their heads. With 13-3, they’re already in the postseason, and no doubt the head coach, Nick Sirianni, will rest some starters. However, there’s still no confirmation on who will start on QB on Sunday against the New York Giants. But let’s talk about the big picture first: Saquon Barkley, who is behind the NFL‘s single-season rushing record.
Well, the Eagles’ fans surely want him to achieve that landmark, given he’s already crossed the 4,000-yard mark in last week’s game against the Cowboys. But here’s the kicker. Considering the postseason is on the cards, coach Sirianni is in no mood to make him start as the running back. “We’re gonna rest some guys,” the head coach said to the reporters ahead of the Giants’ clash.
So what does that mean now? There will be no single-season rushing record for Barkley. Sounds horrible, right? However, the head coach revealed that he had consulted the running back before making this decision. But let’s be honest for a moment. The Eagles and the HC are eyeing for the Super Bowl right now, and for that, the HC’s decision was already on the cards.

Nick Sirianni: not an easy decision to decide to rest Saquon Barkley and not go after the NFL‘s single-season rushing record. But Nick says he has to do what’s best for the team.
To win Super Bowl, Eagles starters would’ve played 17 straight weeks. rest/bye week is big deal. https://t.co/D5x1wsMJIH

But wait! If you’re thinking that this was Sirianni’s decision only, then sorry to break that news to you, but that’s not true. The head coach also consulted the owner, Jeffrey Lurie, before finalizing this big decision ahead of the season-ending game. Seems like ownership, coaches, players, and management are all included in this.
While that’s going on, it appears that Barkley is gonna miss out on the regular season’s last game against the Giants on Sunday, as well as his single-season rushing record. “Ultimately I had to make the decision of what I felt was best for the team,” Sirianni said.
The Eagles QBs’ injury concerns amidst Saquon Barkley’s rest
Look at Jalen Hurts, and you’ll find the guy starting the previous three seasons where he left off. And that includes the 2022 season, where the Eagles almost lifted the Super Bowl title. Well, as far as this season’s concerned, Hurts is doing what he does best. Leading the Eagles to fourth consecutive playoffs.

However, the QB is still in concussion protocol and is expected to miss out on playing against the Giants on Sunday. Hurts exited the field following a head injury in a 33-36 loss against the Washington Commanders on Monday in week 16. And in the meantime, the head coach has not confirmed who’s gonna start as the QB against the Giants as the backup QB, Kenny Pickett, sustained a rib injury.
Following Hurts’ injury in week 17, the Eagles went for Pickett to start against the Cowboys and to secure the NFC East. The 26-year-old completed 10 passes for 15 attempts and piled up 143 yards, with 1 rushing TD and 1 passing TD. However, the QB couldn’t finish the game following a rib injury that he attained on a late hit following a touchdown pass.

All things considered, Hurts will join Saquon Barkley and will most probably miss out on the game and as for the backup QB – well, he’s unlikely to start against the New York team. With that said, Coach Sirianni and the Eagles will go with Tanner McKee.
