Is Micah Parsons' absence the real reason behind the Cowboys' inconsistent performance this season?

Since getting his ankle injured against the Giants in week 4, Micah Parsons has watched his team win one and lose one in respective weeks. However, both of those games gave a completely different story on the Cowboys struggles this season. Although they managed to narrowly beat the Steelers 20-17 in week 5, they weren’t so fortunate next week. Taking on the Lions before their bye week, the Cowboys were played off the park in Dallas. As the Lions scored 47 in reply to their 9 points in week 6.

While the Cowboys have failed to find any inconsistency this season, Parsons did manage to avoid getting into the injury reserves. And the bye week has somewhat helped the Cowboys LB to work on his recovery. As Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy gave an update, “He’s doing good. He was in here every day. Going through rehab. Micah is making progress.” However, the decision is still up to McCarthy if he wants to bring him back for the 49ers clash.

If he does, it would be a gamble that can go either way. Parsons could either help the Cowboys win their fourth game of the season. Or the Cowboys could see him getting injured again, as Micah Parsons is yet to recover completely. But the 25-year-old is doing everything he can to come back strong from his ankle injury, “Rehabbing doing everything I possibly can to get back on the field. It’s still in the air. Obviously, it’s more than just me. I have to clear it with director of rehab Britt Brown, the coaches, the head coach.”

Although the decision doesn’t lie in Micah Parsons’ hand, Mike McCarthy would be the one calling shots on his involvement on Sunday night, “Well, there’s always a threshold of return to play. He’s not over that threshold yet. Until he can get out there and cut it loose. I think when you have veteran players, the general is if they don’t practice on Saturday, they’re not going to play in the game.” So, Parsons playing against the 49ers could be a huge surprise, considering he is still being involved in ankle rehab.

Without him on the lineup, can the Cowboys take on the 49ers, who are equally struggling on their offense this season?

Is Micah Parsons' absence the real reason behind the Cowboys' inconsistent performance this season?

Have an interesting take?

Going into the clash in the Bay Area, the Cowboys find themselves 12th in terms of yards per game and 22nd in points per drive. Well, to add more misery to those rankings, they sit 18th in terms of their success rate with those drives. And the Niners aren’t far away either, as they occupy the 3rd position in terms of yards per game. While being 7th of points per drive, and overall, their success rate ranks 6th among all the other franchises.

Similar to the Cowboys, the 49ers have had their injuries all season. Christian McCaffrey, who won last year’s Offensive Player of the Year, has found himself added to the injury reserves. And his return is yet to be confirmed as he continues to deal with a calf and ACL injury. Elsewhere, Deebo Samuel has missed two games this season. While George Kittle and Jauan Jennings missed one each after seven weeks of NFL action.

However, their biggest loss is WR Brandon Aiyuk, who suffered an ACL injury against the Chiefs last week. Amid all of those absences, the 49ers QB Brock Purdy has only managed to complete 63.9% of his passes this season. With the Cowboys dealing with their own struggles on offense, can they hold off the 49ers at their home on Sunday? Guess we will find out soon, as both teams would like to get back in the winning column at the final whistle in the Bay Area.
