Brian Daboll's update on Giants' WRs—game-changer or just more false hope for fans?

The New York Giants were hoping they could move away from their Sunday embarrassment against the Vikings with renewed hopes in week 2. With excitement on the horizon, as Malik Nabers and Jayden Daniels were slated to face off, Thursday’s injury report might have changed those perceptions. As Nabers was limited in Thursday’s practice, citing knee soreness.

But come Friday, the Giants HC Brian Daboll gave us a positive update on the rookie WR’s injury. Speaking with the reporters, Daboll said he has “no concern” about WR Malik Nabers. Although he pointed out that Nabers didn’t feel right during practice yesterday, early signs today have shown positive progress. He even hoped that Nabers could start practising fully starting today while playing against the Commanders this weekend.

Well, the Giants rookie had an okay-ish start to his NFL career as he caught five of the seven passes made towards him for 66 yards. After Thursday’s practice that sent chills around Giants fans. Nabers shared his thoughts about the injury scare: “You have to wait until game day to see how you actually play. Every day in practice is going to look good. You are going against scout team, plays are going to look good, but it all matters when you play another team.”

Even though there weren’t many positives to take out of their clash against the Vikings, it doesn’t mean the Giants didn’t have any bright spots. Giants safety Dexter Lawrence was a force, while Nabers showed glimpses of his talents. However, the big question going into the clash against the Commanders will be how well the Giants can utilise Nabers’ capabilities while pushing their team to the finish line.

Malik Nabers and Giants prepare for Commanders test in week 2

As the Commanders await the arrival of the Giants at the capital, they hope last week’s loss against the Buccaneers will be forgotten quickly. They might have an advantage going into the clash, as the Giants are facing multiple injuries on their roster. Although Daboll provided us with a positive update on Nabers, it doesn’t seem they have enough firepower available.

Have an interesting take?

WR Darius Slayton is slated to miss out on the trip to Washington as he remains absent, citing a concussion. Elsewhere, LB Darius Muasau and CB Nick McCloud haven’t participated in training all week, as they were sidelined fighting knee injuries. And that’s not where the Giants’ problems end, as Punter Gunner Olszewski is out with a groin problem suffered in warm-ups before their season-opener.

Even Commanders have a few injuries on their squad, as CB Emmanuel Forbes Jr went through a UCL surgery. However, TE Zach Ertz, RB Brian Robinson Jr., and tackle Brandon Coleman all played their part in practice before the Giants clash. This game would be huge for both teams as they could win their first game of the regular season. Will it be visiting Giants or the Commanders playing at home, cheered by their own at Northwest Stadium?
