Can Jake Ferguson's return be the game-changer the Cowboys need against the Saints?

Last Sunday, the Cowboys couldn’t have hoped for a better start to their season after dominating the Browns from start to finish. Although everything was near perfect on their visit to Cleveland, something terrible happened that could change their plans next weekend. TE Jake Ferguson suffered a sprained MCL that led to him exiting the field by the third quarter.

But after four days of intense speculation regarding the extent of his knee injury, coach Mike McCarthy provided us with a positive update. Speaking on 105.3 The Fan, McCarthy said, “He’s doing well. He did a little more yesterday. We’ll see how he feels this morning and set a plan. He’s getting close.” Well, this might come across as a huge relief for the Cowboys, who are hoping to continue their winning start to the season at their home against the Saints.

Looking back at that moment when Ferguson landed on his knee, unusually, the TE said he heard a pop which didn’t look good at first glance. Even the Cowboys TE expressed, “I kind of was like, Oh my God. It kind of hit me, and a couple of tears fell.” Although he left the field and watched from the sidelines as the Cowboys dusted away the Browns, the doctors thought it was an ACL tear. If it had been correct, his season would have ended right away.

But fortunately, it wasn’t as bad as Ferguson started walking without any discomfort, “I don’t have any pain. I’m like a starfish.” Talking about his confidence to return to action against the Saints, the 25-year-old said, “There’s some stuff you can play through, and I’m one of those guys who if I can play through it, I’m going to go.”

Well, Ferguson’s absence could have had huge repercussions on the Cowboys’ offense, as was the second player mostly targeted after CeeDee Lamb by QB Dak Prescott. However, will the Cowboys manage to continue their winning start by taking on the Saints, who blew away the Panthers 47-10 on Sunday?

With the New Orleans visit at AT&T Stadium, the Cowboys would be hoping they can continue their 16-game winning streak. However, it wouldn’t be easy against a Saints team that embarrassed the Panthers at the Superdome. Derek Carr was the man who led the Saints from the front as the QB recorded 19-of23 passes, 200 yards and 3 TDs.

Seeing his performance at New Orleans, Dak Prescott, who was recently crowned as the highest-paid player in the NFL, said, “I’m worried about beating Derek Carr right now. We’ll worry about the playoffs when we get there. Understand what’s been done in the past. I get that. It’s about being present. It’s week by week, and that’s what it is right now.”

Well, Dallas has qualified for the postseason in the last three seasons but hasn’t been able to get past the divisional round once. Even their most recent Super Bowl success came back in 1995 when they defeated the Steelers. However, the Cowboys have high hopes going into this season as they aim to break that streak while winning their first Lombardi in a while.
