Will Haason Reddick's return be the game-changer the Eagles need against the 49ers?

New York loves its Deli coffees, but it takes time to brew a good one. Just like the Gang Green loves cooking dramas up to the boiling point, and it takes time to simmer it down. They must understand that. Throughout the offseason, the headlines were mostly green, about the Jets. Something or the other. But one that has made its way into the regular season is Haason Reddick’s contract as the LB is still away with the Monday Night Football against the 49ers on the horizon.

The latest reports coming in directly from NFL insider Adam Schefter reveal that Reddick is ready to pay “nearly $800,000 for missing tonight’s regular-season opener vs. the 49ers, and an additional nearly $800,000 for each game he subsequently misses.”Add that to his hefty $2 million training camp penalty and over $5 million in fines already piled up, and you can see the star linebacker is in quite a financial hole.

It has been five months since he got traded with a 2026 conditional third-round pick from the Eagles to land in New Jersey. But it has been the same time since he last put on the Gang Green shirt. But what exactly is Reddick’s play here? It’s unlike any holdout the pigskin fanatics have witnessed.

Any sport operates on the theory of racking up the numbers first, proving your worth, and you’ll get a handsome check. So, by that book, Reddick must show up, dominate on defense, and stack those sacks. Let’s be real, he can easily do well with this Jets defense alongside him. Featuring Quinnen Williams, Sauce Gardner, and Jermaine Johnson. And if Reddick racks up another 12.5 sacks this season—his average over the past four years—he’s cashing in big time. But the first step is: getting out of hiding.

“Our job is to help these guys make money.” Robert Saleh put it bluntly, yet perfectly. But they can’t do that with Haason Reddick sitting at home. So, what exactly are his demands? Are they too ambitious?

Haason Reddick wants a handsome cheque or bust!

Will Haason Reddick's return be the game-changer the Eagles need against the 49ers?

Have an interesting take?

First things first, Haason Reddick’s trade talks kicked off over contract negotiations. He wanted a pay raise, and who could blame him? He and Myles Garrett are the only ones who have logged 10+ sacks each of the last four seasons, and Reddick did it while juggling four different defensive coordinators across three teams. Yet, the Eagles were paying him $15 million per season—20th among edge rushers. No wonder he felt underpaid.

That’s where the Jets enter the fray. The Eagles weren’t willing to bump Reddick’s pay considering the age factor, so they traded him for a conditional 2026 third-round pick. If the last four seasons are any indicator, the Jets had all the reasons to push hard and finalize the trade quickly. A no-brainer for the Gang Green, right? Well, it’s all going down to the wire now.

Months later, the money question still looms. It’s clear Reddick’s not stepping on the field until a deal gets done. What do you think is the best long-term solution for all parties involved?
