Questions loom around the New York Jets and how long they can sustain themselves in the 2023 season. Super Bowl is a far-fetched idea. By the looks of it, making it to a divisional championship or even a berth at playoffs seems like a dream for the Jets. Zach Wilson has become a prot?g? of Aaron Rodgers, but the results are not showing. But were the Jets that bad before they got Rodgers?

After putting all their eggs in one basket, the Jets have struggled for the whole season. However, the Jets $75 million playmaker dropped subtle hints that he might be back on the field by the start of December. But what does it mean for Wilson? Will he be sidelined forever, considering the kind of season he is having? Wilson isn?t exactly the face of a franchise QB. Even Robert Saleh is not speaking much about the situation, considering how he used to stick his back out for Rodgers and Wilson.

Wilson was supposed to succeed Aaron Rodgers after his career in the NFL would halt. However, the Bills game took away all the credibility he had as he was benched in the last quarter of the game. Wilson came out with 7 out of 15 passes completed for 81 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. But per Saleh, Wilson is not to be blamed alone.

“Like I told Zach on the sideline, it’s not just him,” Saleh said. “It’s easy to point the finger at the quarterback, but it’s pretty easy to see. You’ve got missed protections, you’ve got dropped balls, you’ve got missed routes. Now, obviously, he has to get better. There are things he could’ve done a lot better, but it’s everyone right now.”, admitted Saleh. But, Saleh is not sure about his next move, per Ian Rapoport.

Meanwhile, the QB mishaps gave Tim Boyle a chance to shine. Boyle has only started in 3 games in his 5-year career and lost all of them. He made 7 out of his 14 passes and passed for 33 yards. The plays he made led to a fumble, a punt, and an interception. After seeing this dismal performance from Boyle, Saleh has his eyes set on Trevor Siemian, who hasn?t won any of the 5 games he started since 2021.

The Jets really don?t have much time to waste as they are going against one of the fastest offenses in the league, the Miami Dolphins. Wilson was sympathetic about the whole situation and shared his thoughts with the media as well.

The New York team faltered multiple times with 3 turnovers while under possession of the ball, 6 sacks, and only 155 yards throughout the game. Breece Hall?s touchdown ended the Jets? cold streak of no touchdowns in the last 12 quarters in 40 consecutive drives. When Saleh was asked to elaborate on Wilson’s performance, he fell short of words.

“Frustrated, but I get it,” Wilson said of Sunday’s benching. “[You] have to score, have to be in games. When it’s consecutive games of just doing nothing on offense, you know you can sit here and say last week we moved the ball, but we’re not scoring. It essentially comes down to you have to score. So when things aren’t getting done, change has to be made, and I understand that.”

The situation has put Wilson?s job in jeopardy. The QB1 isn?t sure about how long he will be able to keep his place. For now, the Jets trail 4-6 this season and it would be difficult to make it to the end of this season. The fact that they also fired Michael Carter has also raised suspicions around the team. It doesn’t look like Aaron Rodgers will be making a return soon. The Jets have to make do with what they have before they get kicked off the season. But before that, they need to focus on their next opponent, the Miami Dolphins.
