The sports world was going through all sorts of emotions on Sunday night. Wherever your eyes went on social media, it was only the reactions to Luka Doncic’s trade to the Los Angeles Lakers. Everyone was simply losing their minds like what just happened. Is it even real, or did someone play a prank on us? But the one who was truly shocked by the news had to be Micah Parsons. His reaction to the trade and a fan poking fun at him at the same time must have led to Parsons having a roller coaster of emotions.

Well, Parsons, like millions of others, decided to share his reaction to the Luka Doncic trade, tweeting, “Yoo wtf going on in Dallas.” With his reaction still fresh in the minds of his followers. One of them decided to troll Parsons by replying, “You next have ya bags packed.” And that comment surprisingly caught Parsons’ attention, who simply reacted, “😭😭😭😭😭😭😭”. Now, it’s difficult to judge whether that comment left Parsons teary-eyed or he brushed off laughing.

But one thing is for sure: Parsons isn’t looking forward to maneuvering a trade out of Dallas. Going back to last year in February, Parsons told NFL.com, “I hope I’m a Cowboy for life.” Then, at the end of last year, with uncertainty growing about his future in Dallas, Parsons said, “I’m just happy to be here. I’m just gonna keep playing hard while I’m here. If I’m here for the next 5-6 years. I’m gonna keep playing hard then too. Ain’t nothing really gonna make a difference. Micah is gonna play hard.” He made it clear what he truly wants.

See, Parsons has been simply the heartbeat of the Cowboys’ defense since 2021. In his 4 seasons with the Cowboys, Parsons has racked up an insane 256 tackles and 52.5 sacks. Even this season, when he missed 4 games because of a high ankle sprain, Micah didn’t let it affect his numbers once he came back. In those 13 games, Parsons still recorded 43 tackles and 12 sacks. This shows how crucial Parsons is to the Cowboys’ chances of making a comeback in the next season. Like former Cowboys Super Bowl-winning head coach, Jimmy Johnson also knows the importance of keeping Parsons in Dallas.

Jimmy Johnson reiterates the need to keep Micah Parsons in Dallas

As Parsons reacted to the trade news, fans swarmed in to express their fears for Dallas under Jerry Jones’s leadership. One netizen predicted on X, “@dallascowboys trade Micah to @Bengals for Sam Hubbard and somehow the @steelers get two 2nd round picks in the deal.” Fans connected the decision by the Dallas Mavericks to Jones as well. One of them wrote, “Jerry Jones owns the Mavs now?? This seems like something he would do.” So, is Micah Parsons’s future in Dallas safe?

See, the thing is—Parsons’ contract is not expiring this season. But the Cowboys 4-time Pro Bowler will enter the fifth-year option on his rookie contract this season. And it will make him $21.4M, which isn’t a bad number. But if you look at some other edge rushers around the league. That contract looks way cheap compared to what Parsons has offered till now. Like the 49ers’ defensive end, Nick Bosa is currently the highest earner at his position, taking home a whopping $34M per year. And Parsons, for one, would also be hoping he gets something around it, “I think I’m the best player in the world. I don’t throw numbers out there like that. I’ll see what they’re willing to give me,” as he said previously.

Even Jimmy Johnson spoke in support of Parsons’ future in Dallas. When there were talks of him getting traded away, Johnson added, “Parsons is such a great, great player. It’d have to be a boatload of picks to trade him. I wouldn’t want to get rid of him. He is their whole defense. He is a game-changer.. you don’t want to get rid of a player that wins games for you.” Considering the Cowboys gave CeeDee Lamb a $136M contract extension and Dak Prescott a $240M deal. They wouldn’t show their back on Parsons, whose importance to the Cowboys cannot be questioned.

But right now, we just have to wait and watch what’s gonna happen with Parsons’ future in Dallas. However, don’t expect this saga to end anytime soon, at least by the end of next season. That’s when the real fun will begin.
