Initially, what started as a harmless Matthew Stafford gossip has taken a serious turn. The NFL world is not happy with Kelly Stafford’s tactics of winning Matthew Stafford over in the commentary-driven online spaces. One of those people is Stephen A. Smith, who didn’t hesitate to go on a tangent. The broadcaster didn’t aim to villainize Kelly Stafford but wanted to set the record straight.
The 2x Pro Bowler’s wife admitted to dating his backup just to get his attention. Stafford’s backup was a “bad boy too,” but the opposite of his personality. When the Los Angeles Rams QB then found out about this, he had been upset at what had transpired. Stephen A. Smith opened the closed wound and decided to give his spin on it.
“I met the woman once, she’s a nice lady. I’m not casting any aspersion on her character or anything like that. I would never disrespect Matthew Stafford’s wife or anybody else’s wife. I’m just making the point,” said the journalist on his podcast, the Stephen A Smith Show, and addressed the elephant in the room. “What would make you think that’s okay? Why would you do that?”

Stafford played for the Bulldogs from 2006-2008 and the usual suspects are not hard to figure out. Joe Tereshinski, Joe Cox, A.J. Bryant, and Mohamed Massaquoi were some of the QBs who played behind Stafford, however tagging one name under the speculation box is not possible. In a column by Ryan Morik of Fox, somebody sugarcoated, “Sounds to me like the backup QB won in this situation,” bringing to light the type of comments people have to make about the relationship.
A podcast that went haywire!
It all started with Off The Vine with Kaitlyn Bristowe where Kelly revealed how she got into a relationship with Matthew Stafford. The Rams QB wasn’t leaning into the relationship in the beginning and that was the tipping point for Kelly Stafford. To get the former Detroit Lions QB’s attention, she started a fling with the backup QB of the Bulldogs. Everything changed when she uttered the words, “Wasn’t that cute of a relationship at first,” and went on a tangent about how she courted Matthew Stafford. Through jealousy, that is.

“I hated him. I loved him. I dated the backup to piss him off,” Kelly said and recalled the lengths to which Matthew Stafford went to win her back. “He would see my car there,” Kelly explained. “And so at one point, he waited, and followed me out and got in my car and wouldn’t get out. I was like, ‘Get out of my car,’ and he’s like, ‘He’s not right for you.’ And I’m like you, ‘You can’t tell me that.'”
She later admitted that she didn’t even fathom marrying Stafford during their time together at college, let alone raising 4 kids with the man. On the other hand, it seems like Matthew Stafford knew what he was doing. He decided to stay with Kelly, got married, and had 4 daughters to raise. Yet, the present happy family of the Staffords is hardly putting away the limelight from Kelly’s overly candid comments about the past.
