Will the Steelers' chances against the Giants crumble without Justin Fields on the field?

The Pittsburgh SteelersNew York Giants game is just a few blinks away, and some important news has surfaced from Pittsburgh. Apparently, Justin Fields will not be participating in the game. Amidst this, a couple of other Steelers inactive players will also not be on the field tonight.

Gerry Dulac, the renowned journalist at the Pittsburgh Post Gazette took to X and shared an update about Fields, saying, “Justin Fields is inactive and will be the emergency 3rd QB vs NYG. Injured his hamstring the other day.” But unfortunately, several other players will also be sidelined for the MNF game versus the Giants.

Per a Steelers beat reporter, Nick Farabaugh, “Steelers’ inactives: QB Justin Fields (3rd QB), CB C.J. Henderson, LB Nick Herbig (hamstring), C Zach Frazier (ankle), RB Cordarrelle Patterson (ankle).” In this list, Justin Fields’ name sticks out like a sore thumb.

On Sunday, Fields was reported as questionable because of a hamstring injury. However, he participated in all the practices leading up to the Giants match-up. ESPN reported that Fields was seen warming up after Russell Wilson, but was demoted to a third-string QB. In Fields’ absence, Kyle Allen will be the second-string quarterback for the Steel City team.

Justin Fields got the Steelers to a 4-2 start but the team lacked a passing game, which was later fixed by Russell Wilson, who is starting his second game of the season. The Steelers have a week 9 bye coming up and it might be a perfect opportunity for Justin Fields to heal.

More details on the injured Steelers

The running back Cam Patterson hasn’t played since week 4 of this season but he has been a limited participant in the practices throughout. He was injured in the game against the Indianapolis Colts. But Nick Herbig’s situation has been a bit worse than all the inactives on the roster.

Herbig sustained his injury in week 5 against the Cowboys and hasn’t played or practiced since then. There have been no updates on his injury either. The case is similar with Zach Frazier, who also hasn’t played or practiced since the week 6 game against the Raiders.

Since the start of the season, the Steelers line players have been taking hits and for tackle Dan Moore Jr., this has been a bittersweet experience. On one hand, it’s painful to watch your teammates go down, and on the other, it’s exciting to watch other players get a starting chance in their absence.

“It’s crazy when you think about it,” said tackle Dan Moore Jr. “I mean, how many guys we’ve had go down since camp? It’s really crazy. But it’s also even crazier to see young guys like Mason (McCormick), who weren’t necessarily thinking they were going to be starters, and they have stepped in and done a great job. And I think they’re getting better every single week.”

With this, the Steelers hope to improve their 5-2 record and it seems like Russell Wilson will help them accomplish the goal against the Giants.
