Did the refs get it right by nullifying Cody Barton's touchdown, or was it a bad call?

Bo Nix isn’t having a great time on the field and things are quite similar for Spencer Rattler. However, Rattler seems to be struggling more than the Broncos quarterback and Cody Barton is the reason behind it. Not only did he cause a fumble, but he also picked up the ball on another play and ran it into the endzone. However, that TD was ruled out.

The nullification of that touchdown left the fans confused. What really happened? Well, a flag was called on DJ Jones and Cody Barton’s touchdown was ruled out. Per Andrew Mason of Denver Sports, “The offsides against D.J. Jones saves the Saints on one of the worst-executed plays I’ve ever seen. Wipes out a Cody Barton touchdown on a fumble recovery.”

To start with, the second-quarter snap with 13:16 remaining was a bit weird to start with. It was too high, but Rattler reeled it in, only to drop it later. However, he picked the ball up, started running, bumped into his own lineman, and then a defensive player got to Rattler. The ball got out and was picked up by Cody Barton, who ran it into the endzone.

The linebacker later found out that his touchdown was overruled because the D-Lineman, DJ Jones was offside. Apparently, Jones is getting a lot of hate on X after the flag was thrown against him. The Saints offense didn’t click for the first half as the Denver Broncos were ahead 16-3.

While the battle between these quarterbacks has been somewhat underwhelming, the linebacker Cody Barton is all over the field, making all sorts of crucial plays. Within the first half, the linebacker recorded 3 tackles and a sack.

Barton started pressuring Spencer Rattler from the get-go. With just 3:47 remaining in the first quarter, his linebacker prowess came into full effect. He sacked Rattler and made it look easy. It felt like the Saints O-Line didn’t even see him coming or tried to stop him. He found his way around the O-Line and went for Spencer Rattler.

The ball came out and it was recovered by the Denver Broncos. That easily tipped the game and that might have been the reason why the Denver team made it to 16-3 without even doing too much. By the end of the first half, Rattler had 10 of his 13 passes completed and didn’t throw a pick or a touchdown. Nix on the other hand had already thrown for 134 passes and completed 13 of his 21 passes.
