Did Jameson Williams' fame influence his release after being caught with firearms in Detroit?

Dark clouds are looming over Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams. And the team claims that they already knew it? What’s the matter? Let’s find out!

So, what happened was, earlier this month on October 8, Jameson Williams was detained when two guns were found in a vehicle that was being driven by his brother. In that vehicle, Williams was sitting in the passenger seat. They were allegedly speeding during a traffic stop near Conner and Jefferson. When asked by the police why he was carrying firearms, the wide receiver replied, “I got the gun for protection….Do you guys know where I live at? Detroit!” With this, Williams indicated the city’s high crime rates.

Furthermore, for speeding, Jameson Williams had another response that time: “I’m just trying to make sure nobody follows me home.” Despite all this, the WR was later released by the police after the officers planned to take him to jail, and guess what? No charges were ever filed, either. But with time, once again, according to NFL insider Dov Kleiman, “Detroit police are now investigating why #Lions WR Jameson Williams was NOT arrested after multiple guns were found in his car.”

Not only that! The police team, via Detroit News, “has also submitted a warrant request to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office over the stop.” Both the guns were registered to him and his brother.

Nevertheless, as per the reports, the athlete had already informed the team about the incident. Hence, they released an official statement saying, “Jameson made us aware immediately that he was a passenger in a routine traffic stop on October 8th. We discussed the incident with him and have kept the league informed of what we know.”

Furthermore, giving away details on the matter, the team has said, “We understand he was released without incident or citation. It is now our understanding that the Detroit Police Department is revisiting the matter. Jameson has hired an attorney, and we will not be commenting further out of respect for the legal process.

Have an interesting take?

It was just after midnight on October 8 when Jameson Williams found himself in an unexpected situation. Police had pulled over a car driven by his brother for speeding near Connor and Jefferson Avenue. And things quickly got serious, as it was clearly seen and heard in the cam footage of the incident, which also went viral. In the video, the officer could be seen asking if there were any weapons in the vehicle. To which, Williams’ brother disclosed two guns, one in the backseat, registered to him with a concealed carry license, and another under Williams’ seat.

But there was a problem – Williams didn’t have a concealed carry permit. Nevertheless, the two were about to be handcuffed. Hence, the athlete started reminding the officers of who he was – “Bro, I play for the Lions.” But that didn’t put much impact on the officers present there, and later he was cuffed and put in the squad car. But just then, a supervising sergeant arrived and recognized Williams right away, even displaying the Lions logo as his phone background. This officer then made several phone calls and after a half-hour of deliberation, the sergeant got word from a lieutenant to let Williams go. In this way, the player was released. Even the guns were returned to the two.

While Detroit Police Commander McGinnis later defended the arrest as warranted, that night’s events left questions hanging in the air about what it means to be a high-profile name in Detroit. Currently, Jameson Williams is suspended by the league due to another reason.
