There’s a lot riding on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB’s shoulder right now. Not only does Baker Mayfield have the responsibility of keeping his team’s playoff dreams alive, but he also now must fend off encroachers trying to come for his money. What makes it horrible is the fact that these are his own people, his own family.
Almost no one has issues with financially helping out their family if they are in trouble. But getting swindled out of $12 million is a whole different ball game. What happened back in 2018-2021 is hitting Mayfield like a train right now, financially, and emotionally.

Turns out, Mayfield has filed a federal lawsuit against a financial firm, Camwood Capital Management Group. Interestingly, it is run by his father, James Mayfield, and his son, Matt Mayfield (Baker’s brother who has a stake in the company). The private equity firm based out of Austin, Texas was accused by Mayfield for failing to pay $11.7 million back to him. The QB has taken the civil lawsuit to the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas on Friday.

Other sources allege that the firm transferred more than $12 million from Mayfield and his wife “without his authorization, proper documentation, or adequate accounting of the transactions” to a subsidiary called Texas Contract Manufacturing Group and used the money to their heart’s content.
Per the lawsuit filed by the Buccaneers quarterback, “For the period of time that Plaintiffs’ funds were being funneled to Defendants, Plaintiffs were the primary source of funding and capitalization for Defendants. In exchange, Plaintiffs received nothing.”

What makes it even worse is that they ignored Mayfield when he asked about the missing money. The lawsuit states that Camwood “invented fictional explanations for their actions.” But there’s more to it than what meets the eye.
Additional details of the Baker Mayfield lawsuit
Some sources report that someone took the money directly out of Baker and Emily Mayfield’s personal accounts. But that’s not all. They unlawfully used money from Baker’s Team BRM LLC to process payrolls and cover other company expenses. According to the lawsuit filed in Texas, a settlement was reached in January. That required Camwood to pay north of $11.7 million including interest.

Per the settlement, the repayment schedule started on September 30. It also gives Baker access to the company books. The Bucs quarterback had to take countermeasures. He tried calling the firm multiple times but didn’t get a reply from the defendants. We’re currently awaiting more updates on the case, so stay tuned.
