The Dallas Cowboys and AT&T Stadium woes just don’t stop. First, there was an issue with the receivers not being able to catch the ball because of the sun. Now there’s something new. This time, there’s something wrong with the stadium’s roof. They wanted to open the roof, but they let it stay closed for the better.

Jon Machota of The Athletic was there in the stadium and saw the roof open as he posted on X, “For the first time in over two years, they’re opening the roof at AT&T Stadium for a Dallas Cowboys game.” But here’s the interesting bit. If you’ve seen any of the ‘Final Destination‘ movies, you might be able to relate.

Apparently, a piece of metal fell down while opening the roof and the crew decided to let it stay closed because of safety issues. Per Machota, “A piece of metal became loose and fell to the AT&T Stadium field (with some additional small debris) while the roof was in the process of opening. There were no injuries. It is being reviewed further and a decision regarding the ability to re-open the roof safely will be made when possible”

Mind begs the question of how a huge piece of metal just fell off. ESPN has the answer to it. The sports media giant suggests that high winds have something to do with it. Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star took to X and uploaded a video that showed an engineer going up to the roof to diagnose the problem and strip the loose pieces of metal from the roof, to avoid any other issues.

Maybe folks at the Dallas Cowboys were testing their luck. The last time the roof was open was on October 30, 2022, when the Cowboys and the Bears played. Guess what, that resulted in a 49-29 home win. The Americas team has lost their first four home games this season and they’re on a 5-game losing streak. This hasn’t happened since 2015, when the Dallas team lost five straight home games. Maybe things will be different this time around, though the arrows don’t point up at all.

Is the AT&T Stadium roof a metaphor for the Cowboys' season—full of unexpected twists?

But let’s see what the Cowboys say about the calamity that struck a few hours before the game.

The Dallas Cowboys break silence amidst the roof falling off

That old idiom of the “roof falling off” really came true of the Cowboys ahead of the bout against the Texans. The team made an honest admission before the MNF kickoff and confirmed that a piece of metal indeed fell. But calling it a “piece of metal” is an understatement. It was in fact a huge piece of metal that could have fatally injured someone.

“We can confirm a piece of metal came loose and fell to the field [with some additional small debris] while the roof was in the process of opening,” the Cowboys said in a statement. “There were no injuries. It is being reviewed further. And a decision regarding the ability to re-open the roof safely will be made when possible.”

We can’t wait for Jerry Jones to break the silence right now. We know that the relentless NFL media will have something to say about it. The accident doesn’t inspire confidence in the Dallas Cowboys winning the game. At this point, Jerry Land looks like a playground where other teams come and bully the home team.
