Did the Bills make a colossal mistake passing on Xavier Worthy? Chiefs fans sure think so!

The Buffalo Bills must be feeling envious of the Kansas City Chiefs now that they realize passing up on Xavier Worthy might have been a huge mistake. The season opener against the Baltimore Ravens showed that the rookie receiver is a jack of all trades. He can rush, he can receive and most importantly, he’s fast. So why did the Bills really pass up on Worthy?

Well, they did so to move up 38 spots up from a fourth-round pick to a third-round pick. They also swapped seventh-round picks to make the cascade. Bills GM Brandon Beane thought at the time that this move didn’t “matter.”

“I could see them taking a receiver, but you don’t truly know,” Bills GM Brandon Beane said after Round 1. “But where they were moving from, I don’t think it mattered to us who they were picking. … We were picking at 28 and we weren’t near 28 first-round grades, so you know going in, there’s not necessarily a great chance that you’re going to pick there.”

This was a strategic move from Beane because after the trade off, the Buffalo Bills secured two second round picks, a third-round pick, a fourth-round pick and four fifth round picks. It gave the Bills a chance to “fill some roles” and also gave them enough ammo to move around again.” Meaning, the Buffalo team would have some leverage in case they wanted to trade more picks.

A surprising fact about the Bills 2024 draft is they only had 10 picks on day one and the number didn’t change as the next day flew by. They similarly passed Patrick Mahomes to the Kansas City Chiefs back in 2017 and the KC chose him 10 overall. If the Bills had Mahomes, who knows where they would be now.

That’s one of the reasons why the internet thinks that the Bills made a huge mistake chose to rub more salt into Bill’s wounds after the Chiefs won 27-20 against the Ravens.

The fans didn’t wait too long to rip into the Buffalo team. A page that goes by the name of NFL Memes on X posted a GIF form the movie Home Alone where the character Uncle Frank is yelling at Kevin while the whole family watches. The NFL fans are Uncle Frank to Buffalo Bills’ Kevin.

One fan pointed how the Bills let Stefon Diggs go and even skipped Worthy, who recorded a 40-yard dash time of 4.21 seconds. “Bills let Diggs go and skipped on the fastest man alive… what exactly are they doing up there???” Another fan wanted to take more drastic measures against the Bills’ front office, saying they should be “arrested.”

“Bills front office should be arrested,” said another fan on the same post. Another pointed out the Buffalo Bills’ inadequacy to surround Josh Allen with proper weapons. “Bills really just don’t want to give Josh Allen any WRs lol,” wrote the fan on the same post. At the same time, others think that it’s too early in the season to make up their minds about Allen and Co.

“Week 1 overreaction lookin like,” wrote another fan on the same post. Another fan seems to think that the Buffalo team seems to be chopping their own legs with a pickaxe. “The Bills broke the league and sunk themselves as well.”

But what if letting go of Xavier Worthy isn’t the end of the word? The Bills did draft Keon Coleman in the second round, though. Coleman is bigger, heavier and sturdier than Xavier Worthy. Also, if it matters, Josh Allen had his eyes on Keon Coleman for weeks as he personally scouted him. In other words, he wanted Keon Coleman to be his receiver and not Worthy. So, it’s isn’t as bad as people are making it out to be.
