Liam Coen was getting something that no one offered him before! Being the play-caller for the first time in Tampa Bay, Coen led the team to a top-four finish in total yards (6793), passing yards (4505), and rushing yards (2536). Hence, the Jacksonville Jaguars showed interest in the offensive coordinator, offering him a promotion.

But Liam Coen earlier rejected that head coach position role, as he turned down the second interview with them. The reason behind it could be his connection with the team as well as the ability of the Bucs overall to reach the playoffs. And of course, with Coen, quarterback Baker Mayfield and the team recorded 4500 yards with 41 touchdowns in the season. Looking at the stats, it’s pretty clear why this QB-OC duo was important, as well as how the team is lucky to have him.

But! But!! Liam Coen suddenly decided to give a massive heartbreak to the entire Tampa Bay roster on Thursday. Yes! According to several reports, Liam Coen is to become the new head coach for the Jaguars, as he has already informed the team. Even ESPN’s Adam Schefter mentioned, “Liam Coen has landed a huge deal to become the Jaguars’ new head coach.

So, what could be the reason behind Liam Coen’s sudden U-turn? Well, as per reports, the answer to this question can be Trent Baalke! The Jags offered Coen HC a job even before the Bucs’s contract offer, but he rejected it then. But now he has pulled back his words after seeing Trent Baalke’s exit from the Jaguars on Wednesday.

GM Trent Baalke gave five seasons to the Jaguars. But after Liam Coen’s sudden rejection from the second interview with the team, owner Shahid Khan took a surprising turn. They mutually parted ways with the general manager, leaving the door open for Coen to rethink the position. Although the reason for Baalke’s firing remains officially undisclosed, this firing helped the team acquire its new HC.

In addition, how can someone leave an HC job when offered? So, all in all, after closely monitoring every circumstance, Liam Coen has reportedly taken this decision. But let us remind you, he rejected the Buccaneers’s massive contract to become so.

According to the reports, the Bucs were offering $4.5 million a year to Coen, making him the highest OC of the league. That report by Rick Stroud reads, “Liam Coen’s deal is believed to be similar to that of Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, who reportedly earns $4.5 million per year.” It was clear that Tampa Bay offered their OC after analyzing his performance as well as the Jags’s interest in him. Additionally, they thought that by offering such a huge deal, Coen would stay back with the team. But it seems, Coen has not much interest in the money. Instead, he wanted a new team where he could build his own staff, and revamp an offense that struggles to be consistent every year.

So, in short, the HC role after Doug Pederson and Trent Baalke’s exits fascinated us more than the money to Liam Coen. Now in Jacksonville, he is likely yet to complete contract negotiations.
