The Seattle Seahawks wide receiver, DK Metcalf has found a loophole to avoid penalties from the NFL. After getting penalized with a hefty amount, Metcalf is now on the quest to trash-talk his opponents using sign language. After strict rules imposed by the league on trash-talking, the league is promoting healthy behavior for the younger generation, but Metcalf seems unbothered with it. 

Metcalf in the recent matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, made a statement with his newly learned sign language, and like before he is passing a strong message through it.

DK Metcalf is avoiding penalties with sign language

Front Office Sports’ Twitter account shared a video featuring Metcalf using sign language to convey his message during a game against the Cowboys. He showcased his sign language skills after scoring the long touchdown early. Moreover, Metcalf was earlier fined a total amount of $98,033 for unsportsmanlike conduct. To tackle this situation, Metcalf learned sign language to avoid fines and hence exploited a loophole in the league.

Sharing the video, Front Office Sports’ Twitter account wrote, “In his career, DK Metcalf has been fined a total of $98,033 for excessive celebration or unsportsmanlike conduct. So, he spent his downtime learning ASL — and now talks trash in sign language. Tonight: “Standing on business.”

Metcalf conveyed a message, Standing on business. However, during his appearance on the Rich Eisen Show, Metcalf explained why he switched to sign language and learned it in the first place.

Metcalf learned sign language to trash-talk opponents

Metcalf appeared on the Rich Eisen Show, sharing why he moved toward sign language. Metcalf revealed, “I kept getting flagged for my mouthing, so got to sign my s—talking now.” Metcalf played it smart by using sign language. However, Eisen probed him by asking what if the match official knew sign language and understood your sign.

Metcalf humorously replied, “I’ll just be talking to him on the side, we’ll have our dialogue, It’s somebody else to talk to.” However, there are different opinions on the matter, and Metcalf after being imposed with hefty penalties, found a loophole to get his work done. After all, the athlete picked up the skills just to get away with trash-talking his opponents. What’s your take on this?
