The man who performed the “Miracle at the New Meadowlands” has hung up his cleats after a legendary era. Only a few players deliver power-pack performances and retire with legendary status. One such player is the Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson.

The Eagles’ jersey No. 10 attended the University of California, Berkeley, and was chosen as the second-round pick by the team in 2008. A few months ago, the 36-year-old WE announced he wouldn’t retire. However, as he has taken the final decision to retire, it appears that two reasons might have compelled him to do so.

The Eagles’ legend, DeSean Jackson, who last played for the Baltimore Ravens in 2022, announced via the Iggles’ official Twitter account he is retiring. Jackson played for 15 seasons in the NFL, mostly with Philly. In the post, he wrote, “I’ll forever be an Eagle,” showing his love and belonging for the franchise.

His retirement is somewhat surprising because approximately four months ago, Jackson denied his retirement plans for some more time. But now that he has retired, reports suggest that there could be two major reasons for this move. One is that he might not have received a good offer that could interest him, and the other is that he wanted to be close to home, where he had two sons to spend time with.

After exiting from the Birds, Jackson played for five different teams. But wherever he went, Jackson left his impact on that team. First, he joined the Eagles’ rival, the Washington Commanders, and later moved to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He returned to the Eagles in 2019, but injuries plagued his performance in the following two seasons. He also spent his duration with the Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Rams.

Although he spent two more years in the NFL, he wasn’t a starting player. His last season with the Ravens was not that notable because that was the only season where he didn’t score any touchdowns, regardless of the time he spent on the field. Jackson played in 183 games in the league and gained “11,263 yards on 641 catches and 58 TDs.” In his immortal play on December 19, 2010, Philly’s Jackson played a crucial part in a stunning comeback run against the New York Giants. That memorable play is known as the “Miracle at the New Meadowlands.
