Ravens players taking a knee—A sign of solidarity or just another distraction in the NFL?

Solemn scenes are coming out of M&T Bank Stadium as Baltimore Ravens players have opted to take a knee in the middle of their clash against the Raiders. While the fans watching on the TV or in the stadium probably remain unaware of the situation. Someone from the chain gang has found himself being treated for a medical emergency.

This incident took place while 2:36 minutes still remained on the clock before the whistle for the first half blew. Before the chaos unfolded on the Ravens’ sideline, John Harbaugh appeared to have thrown in his challenge flag to call for an incompletion to Zay Flowers. However, it wasn’t long before an off-field official ended up collapsing on the sidelines while players took the knee.

Within a few minutes of that scary incident, Ravens offered an update on the situation. “A member of the chain gang crew collapsed. He was immediately attended to by medical personnel. Upon leaving the field, he was alert and responsive. He’s being taken to a local hospital.” As the medical staff quickly attended his chest compressions, that individual started moving his fingers while speaking with people around him.

This would be a huge relief for the fans, who quickly took to social media to express their thoughts and prayers. Some of them wrote, “Really hope he’s okay, we love the chain gang.” While others added, “Prayers for him and his family. Hoping he can recover.” Although the game eventually resumed after those horrifying few moments.

But going back to the game, the Ravens have welcomed the Las Vegas Raiders in their home for week 2 of the NFL showdown. After their narrowest loss against the reigning champions, the Chiefs, in week 1 by just a toe. They would be hoping Raiders can be a walk off the park playing in front of their home support.

Going to their week 2 clash at Baltimore, both Ravens and Raiders are 0-1 at the start of their season. But recapping their last match-ups, each of them had contrasting performances to show for it. While the Ravens almost won their match against the Patrick Mahomes-led Chiefs on the road. The Raiders found themselves struggling from end to finish while taking on the Chargers. As their game ended in a 22-10 loss, the team from Las Vegas can be deemed underdogs going into the match-up.

With last season’s NFL MVP Lamar Jackson in the ranks and Derrick Henry, the Ravens might not find a better opportunity to record their first win of the regular season. Elsewhere, the Raiders were spread thin by the Chargers while allowing 176 rushing yards on 27 carries to showcase their flawed defense.

As they mightily struggled to stop JK Dobbins, who racked up 135 rushing yards on 10 carries, their chances against Henry look slim. But it’s the NFL where anything can happen. And the same goes for the Ravens vs Raiders clash, where we could see some possible surprises coming out from Baltimore.
