Tommy DeVito and his rise to fame with the New York Giants has been long overdue. Though it is his rookie season, he has become one of the few QBs since the 1950s to throw 5 touchdown passes in his first two games of the season. The replacement for Daniel Jones has been doing wonders as his team faced the New England Patriots. He is making it look easy for someone who just stepped into the league.

Priorly, DeVito had an exceptional game against the Washington Commanders where he threw three touchdown passes and became the local hero. He celebrated after he passed the ball to Saquon Barkley for a touchdown, in a way that paid homage to his Italian culture and made his parents proud. But where did he get this motivation from?

Interesting excerpts about DeVito have come out since the last game with the Washington Commanders, where he completed 18 out of his 26 passes. After throwing the touchdown pass to Saquon Barkley, he ran towards him and celebrated with “mano a borsa”, which is called the figure purse in Italian culture. It is also a famous emoji with the fingers pinched together and pointing upwards, often known as the chef’s kiss.

He got this advice from Assistant Athletic Trainer Phil Buzzerio, who told him that the “mano a borsa” needed to be his TD celebration as a respectful gesture to his family and his culture. The tweet shared by Art Stapleton points out how this symbol has become DeVito’s salsa dance. It is reminiscent of Victor Cruz’s TD celebration, which Mike Sullivan, the former QB coach told him to do.

However, more than the celebration, it is crucial to witness how the football player reached the moment of success. He undoubtedly shows indication of a dedicated athlete, reflecting on his game in a thorough manner.

DeVito’s journey of making a place in the NFL

After the last 2 games, especially after the game against the Commanders, DeVito was handed the reigns to the New York Giants in lieu of Daniel Jones’ absence. He is now the acting QB1 for the Giants, and they are not regretting the decision. We saw him celebrating with the gesture as his mom and dad cheered from the sideline, mimicking the QB1.

The last game made him quite a star as he came out with a 69.2% pass completion rate. Apparently, he and Victor Cruz are still in cohorts, as he did some off-season workouts with him a couple of months ago. He convinced Victor Cruz that “he’s the real deal” and apparently, Cruz saw enough to understand why the Giants made him start the game against the Patriots.
