Is Devon Mostert the secret weapon behind Raheem Mostert's success on the field?

Raheem Mostert and his wife Devon Mostert feature in a love story straight out of a romantic flick. A New Smyrna Beach, Florida native meets the small-town Chardon-born. The love story blossomed on the well-known campus of Purdue University, which Raheem attended from 2011-2014. Expectedly, the Miami Dolphins RB posed the big ‘Will you Marry Me?’ question the following year, and the two got engaged in 2015.

However, it was only in March 2017 that the Purdue famous couple tied the knot. To explore this beautiful journey between the two, it is salient to note that Raheem and Devon have been together for a decade now, supporting and cherishing each other. While the RB completed a full circle by rejoining the Miami Dolphins camp this season, it was this strong-willed woman who remained by his side always.

Devon Beckwith (now Mostert) is a mother of 3 kids, a photographer, a Pilates instructor, and the co-founder of Raheem Mostert Waves of Success Foundation through which the couple provides youth with the direction and mentorship they lack in life. She boasts 10k followers on her Instagram which is full of pictures with her running-back husband, and their kids, Gunnar Grey, Neeko Rafe, and Myles Raheem.

Surprisingly, Devon, a Chardon, Ohio native, went to Purdue to study photography and played soccer in high school. She often showcases her photography skills, thanks to her Instagram timeline that portrays various moments from the Mostert clan including their kids and pets. Did you know that their oldest child Gunnar is named after Mostert’s former special teams position?

The professional often takes to social media to celebrate his small family. This Mother’s Day, the RB posted, “Thank you so much for being the best mom to our boy squad. When I say you were meant for this boy mom life, you were built for this. I know it’s an extreme sport in our house every day , but you handle it like a champ!! 💪🏼 WE LOVE AND APPRECIATE YOU! Love, Heem, G Man, Neek, Mylesy, and Willie Nelson.”

From the looks of it, with three kids, Devon has given Raheem Mostert a lot to look forward to. However, Raheem Mostert wouldn’t even be playing football if his wife hadn’t intervened and saved his career on two different occasions.

How did Devon save Raheem Mostert and his career?

Mostert’s half-brother was shot at New Smyrna Beach, Florida where the RB grew up. It was breaking news and Devon heard about it first. At the time, Mostert was returning back from the National Track & Field Championships. So, to prevent him from losing any control due to the news, Devon got hold of Raheem’s coach at Purdue and asked him to keep him there for a while.

“I was really about to buy a plane ticket,” Mostert says, “and head down there and ruin everything I worked for. Just to find him.” Luckily, his brother turned out to be okay in the end and even managed to talk to him on the same day. “Don’t worry about me. I’ll be all right,” said the half-brother to Mostert. But this wasn’t the only time Devon saved Mostert’s career.

Mostert’s career didn’t really start with a bang. Instead, he was tossed around from team to team and started to question his ability to play football at a high level. Devon and her parents came around to offer him support and told him to follow his dreams and if his dream was to play football, so be it.

“I remember sitting there and asking, ‘Hey what do you guys see me doing?’” Mostert told Sports Illustrated. “The way my career has gone so far, I have been on five different teams in one year, my rookie year. For me, I felt like that was unheard of.” It didn’t take long for Devon and her parents to convince Raheem Mostert to stay on track.

“He was like alright, on to the next, we’ll see what colors I’m wearing this week,” said Devon of Raheem Mostert. This incident happened in 2015, the same year in which the couple got married. Mostert had studied Business Development at Purdue and was seriously thinking about leaving the league for a 9 to 5. Luckily, that didn’t happen to him and we still see him on the field making plays at the highest level.
