The New York Jets have had a messy 2024. There’s no two ways about it. At 3-8, the only reason they’re not dead at the bottom of the AFC East is because the Patriots have somehow been doing even worse than them. Not only has Aaron Rodgers not clicked, owner Woody Johnson kicked head coach Robert Saleh out mid-season. GM Joe Douglas was next on the chopping block, and with his exit, Phil Savage stepped in as interim GM. Let’s hope he lives up to his name.

He’s certainly got the pedigree for it, but it’ll be a stressful job while he’s at it. There’s every chance the Alabama native will lean on and take the support of his wife, Dorothy Savage. Dorothy is a sweet lady, but she’s tough enough to live up to the Savage name herself. She was born on May 16th, 1985, into a strongly Christian household where she connected with her parents over their shared faith. Sadly, when Dorothy was just 13, her mother contracted cancer and passed away just a few years later.

It’s not easy to live through something like that and still remain religious, but Dorothy’s faith was unshaken. She remained a committed Christian and remained committed to her studies. She was a straight-A student, after all. Her academic excellence qualified her for a music scholarship at the University of Mobile, in her native Alabama, after she graduated high school with honors. It was shortly after she graduated that she took her sister’s kids to a Christmas parade in Fairhope, Alabama, where she ended up meeting Phil Savage.

She remembers the meeting well, describing him as both attractive and shy. Of course, her husband later told her that he knew right away that she was “the one.” They have a 20 year age gap between them, but Savage is clearly besotted. The man has two interests: football and Dorothy Savage. The couple got married on May 31st, 2003, and lived for several years in Point Clear, Alabama. Surely now, with Phil Savage operating as GM, New York City would be the first choice, though. But there’s far more to Dorothy’s story than that.

Dorothy Savage: Christian rock star

The town of Mobile, Alabama, couldn’t have contained the ambitions of the young Dorothy Savage. She graduated within 3 years, and then it was off to New York City. Where else? “I sold everything I had and boarded the Amtrak for New York with $7.00 and a packed lunch,” she recalls. It was a short-lived escape though, and she ended up coming home to Mobile, where she worked at the University’s admissions department for some time. Some time later, she would start to tour successfully in theaters in places like NYC, Philadelphia, and Baltimore.

She later spring boarded off this success to build her music career. Her mother’s side of the family had always been very musical, apparently, and that’s where some of the talent must have trickled down from. She collaborated with producer Marty Magehee in 2010 to put out the Christian rock album Glorious Mess, a semi-autobiographical work. While largely religious in tone, she also tackled themes like her personal struggle with bulimia and body image. The next year, she would put out a Christmas album called Sleigh Ride, too.

But more recently, Dorothy made a return to what she loves best, the theater. Dorothy and Phil Savage have two kids, Honor Blue, a daughter, and Ever Brave, a son. Beautiful names, and from those names, another thing of beauty was born – Everblue Arts. Everblue Arts is a performing arts studio, hosts year round performance workshops as well as an Arts Festival that was started in 2018. The entire thing operates from Fairhope, Alabama, and a lot of love has gone into it. Dorothy Savage has lived an eventful life, that’s for sure.
