Mike Greenberg is usually the one lobbing the questions. Loud, fast, full of fire. Whether he’s calling out Jets heartbreaks on Greeny or volleying hot takes with analysts on Get Up ESPN. But now and then, the headline-maker is the headline. The Athletic caught onto that idea in 2023, publishing a rare peek behind the microphone with a simple premise: How does Mike Greenberg spend his Sundays? Spoiler alert: it involves coffee, golf, dog walks, and zero tolerance for shop talk—unless you’re gossiping about your handicap.

Greeny might spend his mornings yelling about QBs, but by Sunday afternoon, he’s whispering sweet nothings to his Australian Labradoodle, Phoebe, and passing oyster crackers like doggy currency. And then there’s his golf circle, where he’s a self-declared “obsessed” player who enforces a strict no-sports-talk policy mid-round. But the best part about his Sunday ritual? That’d be Stacy. The long walks, the calm in the chaos, the partner who’s quietly been in step with him through it all. Well, on the topic of headlines, she deserves her own, and that’s what we are doing.

Who is Stacy Greenberg?

Stacy Greenberg has kept a low profile, and that’s the reason why we don’t know her as much as we know our ESPNGreeny. So, for the many she’s ‘Mike Green’s wife.’ That’s fine but respectfully she’s more than just that. We are talking like she was the real breadwinner for the family, at first. As Stacy herself said, back in 2006, “He [Mike] was very comfortable with that.”

A Chicago native with deep roots in Jewish tradition and middle-class values, Stacy carved out her own lane long before ESPN’s Get Up became prominent. Her early career took flight—literally—in the airline and hospitality industries, working with high-profile brands like Starwood Hotels and Travelzoo, helping them build their brands because she was the strategic marketing guru. Her passion for storytelling isn’t just professional—it’s personal. She co-authored MVP: Most Valuable Puppy alongside Mike, a playful, family-centered book inspired by their shared love of animals and parenting.

That same love shines through in her philanthropic work. Stacy supports initiatives ranging from cancer research to children’s literacy and animal welfare, including her work with Guiding Eyes for the Blind. She’s the kind of woman who’ll joke about her husband’s quirks on X, then turn around and spearhead an education campaign for underserved kids. Though Stacy once ran a travel blog, Gate1A.com, she’s since taken a step back from posting publicly. These days, she focuses more on family, and yes, courtside seats at Knicks games.

How did Stacy meet Mike Greenberg?

Mike and Stacy Greenberg’s love story started like most people’s. Through work, timing, and lots of conversation. They met in Chicago back in the ‘90s, both carving out early careers. The connection didn’t hit all at once, though. It simmered through shared hangouts, debates about books, and plenty of back-and-forth banter. Basically, the original two-person podcast before podcasts were a thing.

By 1997, they sealed the deal—September 6, to be exact—and since then, it’s been 25+ years of teamwork, tag-teaming parenting duties, and backing each other through career pivots and cross-country moves. Stacy’s been Mike’s sounding board, idea tester, and the other half of their private, two-person book club. As Mike told The Athletic, “She has a more discerning taste, while I’ll go see and read anything.” Which, let’s be honest, sounds like the perfect duo who must have endless conversations.

Together, they’ve built a rhythm. Between ESPN shoots and book signings, they make time for family. And most importantly, be present for each other. But also for their children.

How many children do Stacy & Mike have?

Mike and Stacy Greenberg have two kids—a daughter, Nikki (24), and a son, Stephen (22)—but you won’t find them front and center. No paparazzi spotlight. That’s by design. The Greenbergs keep their family life locked down. Because maybe they believe in ill wish, or they just don’t need unnecessary attention. It’s not about secrecy—it’s just not for show.

Still, you’ll catch a glimpse now and then. Their daughter Nikki? She’s the reason behind MVP: Most Valuable Puppy. While she’s kept out of the spotlight, her dad couldn’t help but share this slice of real life: “Once in a while, my daughter, Nikki, who lives four blocks away, will invite me to join her at SoulCycle… I have often found myself spinning in a Taylor Swift ride, and it’s a blast.”

That’s the vibe. Just real moments—dad trying to keep up in a Swiftie-themed spin class. The Greenbergs don’t overexpose their family. They don’t have to. The little glimpses we get? They tell you all you need to know. Tight-knit. Grounded. And fun-seeking where they have to be.
