The NFL placekicker decided to officially hang his cleats after spending almost 17 years in the Green Bay Packers and winning Super Bowl XLV. Though the NFL scoring leader of 2007 retired in 2023 after playing for the Rams and Giants that same year, he decided to make it official this year.

He is the Packers’ all-time leading scorer, 8-time NFC Special Teams Player of the Week, and also a 2-time NFL Special Teams Player of the Month (2007 and 2013). Who is Mason Crosby’s wife?

Mason Crosby’s wife, Molly Ackerman Crosby, is a cancer survivor and a blogger. Along with that, the 38-year-old has also looked after five kids. Surprisingly, she is a blogger for ‘Discover Green Bay’. Her bio in the writer’s section reads: “Molly Crosby is a former Green Bay resident, aspiring author, cancer survivor, mom to 5 kids, and wife of Packers all-time leading scorer, Mason Crosby.” That’s unique, right? Mason Crosby and Molly Ackerman hitched up on June 28, 2008, the next year after the Packers picked Mason Crosby up from the NFL drafts. 

Molly and Mason Crosby share five children. Their youngest twin girls are eight years old, Felicity and Christine. Their siblings include 10-year-old Elizabeth, 12-year-old Charlotte, and eldest son Nolan, who is 15 years old. Molly Ackerman had a tough life. She battled dangerous lung cancer and overcame it five and a half years ago. It was a tough fight.

How did Mason Crosby’s wife beat cancer? 

The 2019-20 season was one of the happiest in Mason Crosby’s life. That year, he received two good news in his life- successful cancer surgery for his wife and a call from the Packers HC Matt LaFleur. But that wasn’t the case months back. Mason Crosby was devastated to learn that Molly was diagnosed with lung cancer in June 2019.

The Packers star remembers, “Our friend who is a thoracic surgeon here in Green Bay ran us through what they found: There was a tumor on the lower lobe of her right lung.” He also added, “It was a good-sized tumor, about two centimeters across, tucked in a spot close to her spine and near her heart.” And after the diagnosis, doctors disclosed that Molly had a neuroendocrine tumor. 

The time when they both learned this, Mason recalled the bitter moments, “We had tears; we had moments of how is this happening?” But they both fought against it. To put it in Crosby’s words, “Then, we had this moment of connection between us: We are doing this together, we are going to fight this, whatever we need to do, in the best way possible.”

Though Crosby signed a 4-year $16 million contract with the Packers in 2016, he was worried about his ability to keep the starting job going into this season.

Crosby recalled the journey during an interview he gave in 2023. “I played in the game Thursday night, jumped on a plane Friday morning, and arrived at the hospital when Molly was checking in and doing pre-op stuff.” It was a tricky surgery, lasting over five hours, with the spine and heart being close to the tumor. It was a successful surgery.

He also got a call from Packers head coach Matt LaFleur. He confirmed his spot on the team for the 2019-20 season. With no need for radiation or chemotherapy anymore, Molly cheered for her husband during games. Now after his retirement, he can spend more quality time with his wife.
