That’s the story of NFL GM John Spytek. The 44-year-old has been in the whirlwind of general manager jobs and finally landed in Las Vegas. But in this tiring process, his wife has been with him all the way.

Apart from starting as a scout, John Spytek played college football for the University of Michigan from 1999 to 2002. He was an outside linebacker. Do you know who was Spytek’s teammate? After completing college, Spytek’s interest in scouting talents started to grow, and he landed at several NFL franchises to get a job. Kristen Hutchinson Spytek, NFL GM John Spytek’s wife, is the President of the National CMV Foundation. Kristen Spytek is also currently the Marketing Communications Executive at Spytek Consultancy. She works these jobs full-time as a (co-)founder, apart from taking care of a four-member family. John and Kristen met and started dating in their years at the University of Michigan. John and Kristen established this foundation in 2014 to spread awareness of the CMV disease amongst people. You must be thinking, ‘why?’ There is a tragic story behind it. Kristen and John had three children, but their first child, Evelyn Grace Spytek. died of the CMV (Cytomegalovirus infection, or congenital CMV) on December 26, 2014. She was only 21 months old.

That’s why Kristen and John Spytek organized a marathon with friends and family members, and the foundation was formed. Talking about that incident, John Spytek said, “I have a tattoo over my heart of her… the sound waves of her left [heart] track… and, you know, in crazy moments I’ll just touch it and close my eyes and can kind of hear her laugh and it’s a very calming couple seconds for me… She’s an amazing kid and I’m just grateful that we had her.” Apart from the late girl child, the couple share two kids, Thomas and Jack.

Professional journey of John Spytek’s wife, Kristen Spytek

Apart from her role at the National CMV Foundation, she has a staggering 15 years of experience in marketing. She is generally active on LinkedIn, where she shares her thoughts. From 2004 to 2005, John Spytek’s wife worked as an assistant agent at N.S. Bienstock in the Greater City of New York. Then, from 2006 to 2007, she worked as a marketing coordinator with KYW Newsradio of Philadelphia.

After working around a year at each, John Spytek’s wife joined Brightcove in 2008 as a PR Manager. But she worked there for less than one year. Then, for two years, Kristen was a senior marketing manager at Philly company Digitas Health. After struggling for many years, Kristen worked for six years with Rosetta. She left Rosetta in 2016. But in these six years, she founded the CMV Foundation in 2014. Currently, Kristen is self-employed at her Spytek Consultancy, where she serves female entrepreneurs.

An absolute hard worker, John Spytek’s wife is a gem in the GM’s life. From his day as a linebacker to his current position as general manager, a lot of bitter things have happened, but the couple have endured it and grown together.
