While Patrick Mahomes’ mother is Randi Mahomes, Walker was raised by his mother, Jessamyn Walker, and his stepfather, Gerry Howatt. Growing up, Walker had two other siblings, his sisters Mireille and Kayla. Despite being away from the Mahomes family, he has found his calling to the gridiron like his more illustrious half brother.

He went to Brown University to study philosophy and picked the Ivy League institution due to the “unique opportunities that it provided” him “both academically and athletically.” However, he quickly realized his 6’3”, 215 lbs build can take him to NFL, so he moved to Rice earlier this year after three years at Brown University.

Pat Mahomes Sr. is supportive of his son’s decision and said, “(Graham) finally decided he wants to be a serious football player, so we have him in the transfer portal.”

In January, during the Kansas City Chiefs‘ AFC wildcard game against the Dolphins, Mahomes Sr. talked about Walker’s upbringing and his prospects. He said, “He definitely is a Mahomes. His stepdad did a great job with him, his mom did a great job with him, before adding that Patrick will help Walker in his NFL quest.

“He’s supportive, as he always is. Hopefully, in this offseason Patrick will get a chance to throw the ball to him, run routes, as Patrick always has his receivers come down.”

Describing Walker’s personality, Mahomes Sr. described him as “a little bit more laid back than the others. Stays away from the spotlight and goes out and grinds and works. But a very impressive young man.”

Graham began his college football career at Brown University in 2020. However, his first season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But overall in his three seasons with the Bears team he put up impressive numbers.

Once the games resumed, in the 2021 season, he led all Ivy League rookies in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdown receptions. He posted impressive stats, including two games with over 100 receiving yards. In 2022, Walker continued to perform well. He caught 28 passes for 292 yards and scored three touchdowns.

In this three seasons with the Bears, Walker accumulated 127 catches, 1,496 yards and 15 touchdowns. Recognizing his potential, he decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal in 2023 to find a good school. Now, Walker is transferring to Rice University, where he will continue to play as a wide-receiver.

He was motivated by the school’s strong track record of developing NFL talent. “Seeing the track record of guys going to the NFL and the guys that the coaching staff has developed just provides more and more reason to join such a great program,” Walker told The Roost.

Walker’s journey from Brown to Rice reflects his dedication to football and his desire to follow in the footsteps of his Super Bowl winning half brother. With support from his family, particularly his father and half-brother Patrick Mahomes, it might not be too long before we see Walker share the NFL limelight with Mahomes.
