Is Amon-Ra St. Brown's success more about talent or his father's relentless training?

Amon-Ra St. Brown, an emerging NFL WR, left everyone in awe of his impressive performance last season. Now, he is making waves for being cast in Netflix’s new series, “Receiver.” The series has featured NFL wide receivers’ on- and off-field behind-the-scenes sacrifices and accomplishments. As the Detroit Lions WR also plays an important role in the series, his challenges and victories also form a vital theme in the show.

In the first episode, Netflix deeply dives into the personal life of the Lions’ fourth-round pick, highlighting his bond with his father, John Brown, who has been his constant pillar of support throughout his journey in the NFL. Amon-Ra’s father, John Brown, is a renowned personality who left his mark in the bodybuilding arena.

He is an ex-professional bodybuilder who notched the esteemed Mr. Universe title twice in 1981 and 1982. Apart from that, Sr. Brown was also honored with the Mr. World title three times. His father’s journey is truly inspiring.  Undoubtedly, St. Brown has been profoundly affected by his father, as his dad’s passion for fitness and bodybuilding has inspired him, fostering a strong work ethic and commitment to athletic achievements.

“He was a beast. He kind of you know installed the discipline into me. I told him. look the plan is to go to the NFL,” his father also revealed in the Netflix series. Even when he was in school, Amon-Ra St. Brown and his father shared the aspiration of becoming professional NFL players. The football professional once shared a picture of his mom and dad as he captioned the moment, “My 🌎 … Love Yourz,” indicating their solid bond.

To actualize the NFL dream, John Brown even built a small family gym at home and provided intense training to Amon-Ra St. Brown along with his other sons to get them in the best possible shape for football. He also used different training techniques with them as a mentor and guide.

“I know. I am a father but I am freaking Mr. Universe two times. I know what I am talking about when it comes to this stuff. I know that if they could reach the pinnacle. There is a good reward at the end,” John Brown remarked. Thus, due to his father’s constant backing, the WR’s current status is significant.

Even NFL WR appreciated his father’s unwavering support during the time of joining USC. Previously, in an interview “Without him, I wouldn’t be where I am today. He’s pushed me from point A to point Z. He’s a great dad. He’s hard on the field, but he’s really loving off the field,” Amon-Ra remarked. Apart from that, he also had a great time with his dad. “He’s a funny guy. We laugh a lot. He balances it really good.” 

Thus,  because of the impactful support of his father, the Detroit Lions’ fourth-round pick clinched his first All-Pro nod last season. The Lions’s star WR also recorded 1,515 yards and 10 touchdowns on 119 catches, making him one of the best WRs in the league.
