How much do you think Kyndall Ellis-Powell's support contributes to Cornell Powell's success with the Chiefs?

Two-time Super Bowl winner Cornell Powell is looking for a three-peat. That’s monumental and would create history for the Kansas City Chiefs. For the last 2 years, one person has stood by his side like a rock. It’s his wife, Kyndall Ellis-Powell. The couple first met each other when they were studying at Clemson University. While he focused on football after arriving there in 2016, his better half pursued a Bachelor of Arts from 2015 to 2018. He stayed there till 2020 while she moved to Syracuse University in 2018 and passed with a Master’s in public relations and sports media in 2020. The first sparks of love flew later.

While both were working hard to make it big in their life, their heart pulled towards each other and Powell proposed to her in 2021. She said, “Yes” and became his lucky charm. In the 2021 NFL draft, the Chiefs chose him as their fifth-round (181st overall) pick. The next year, on June 25, the couple exchanged vows. The guests in the ceremony included Powell’s Clemson teammates, including LB Isaiah Simmons, WR Amari Rodgers, and QB Trevor Lawrence. Then his ascend to glory started.

In 2023, he won Super Bowl LVII, during his second year with the franchise. His wife, too, was climbing ladders of success in her career as Women Leaders in College Sports from June 2021 to July 2023. On December 11, 2023, Eliis-Powell became the Director of Development, for Athletics, at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She has often used her sports management knowledge to help her husband to return from injuries. He won Super Bowl LVIII in 2024. Their love reflects in their life outside of sports as well.

They love traveling the world together, which was on show during their trip to Maldives and the couple loves to try new cuisines. Powell likes to celebrate their special days together when he wished her happy anniversary on Instagram with the caption, “You Make Life Worth Living.” Ellis-Powell, a dog lover, has two dogs named Birkin and Bentley. The couple is famously called #ThePowellCouple.

Now that we have talked about his better half, let’s tell you about one more woman who guided him through his teenage years.

Cornell Powell’s tribute to his school teacher

What’s your perspective on:

How much do you think Kyndall Ellis-Powell's support contributes to Cornell Powell's success with the Chiefs?

Have an interesting take?

When Powell played at J.H. Rose High School in Greenville, North Carolina, he met a physical education and health teacher named Elizabeth Upton, popularly known as Ma Upton. She promised his (Powell’s) grandmother that she would look after the budding athlete. Upton held her promise, which showed in the athlete’s performance who had 65 receptions for 1,557 yards and 38 touchdowns in his senior year. When she died in July 2017 because of breast cancer, the wide receiver suffered a personal loss.

The first tribute came on Instagram with their photo, whose caption read, “Words can’t describe how much you will be missed! There was not a better person in this world than you. Rest easy beautiful“. He remembered her when he made it big. In 2020, he played in a game with ‘Ma Upton’ written on his eyeblack. He ended the senior college season with 53 receptions for 882 yards and seven touchdowns. With such a person guiding him, the WR got enough inspiration to make it big.

With two Lombardi Trophies already, the WR is enjoying his career. His lovely wife would be there to support him once again. Can the Chiefs make it a 3-peat? Can Cornell Powell and others write their names in history? The season is less than a month away and the Chiefdom is rallying behind their team to go all the way.
