Last year, in March, the Bucs athlete announced their engagement on Instagram via a couple of pictures with the caption: “To know her is to love her. The best part of me today, tomorrow, and all the days to come,” with a heart emoji. Mpagi has been a steadfast supporter of Winfield in his NFL career. The lovebirds haven’t taken their relationship to the next level, i.e., wedding. But fans are expecting them to get married soon.
Although their wedding isn’t on the cards anytime soon, Winfield’s contract extension is possibly near, as reported by NFL analysts.
Extension before March 5?
The next contract for Antoine Winfield Jr. is reportedly expected to “reset the safety market.” Negotiations for a new deal will continue until the franchise tag deadline on March 5 by 4 p.m. ET. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, “While the expectation is that Buccaneers safety Antoine Winfield Jr. will receive the franchise tag by Tuesday absent a new deal, the two sides will continue talking over the coming days in hopes of an extension. There’s a feeling from people inside the league I’ve spoken to that Winfield would reset the safety market in a new deal, either with Tampa Bay or as a free agent. He was that good last season, finishing with 122 tackles, six sacks, six forced fumbles, and three interceptions.”

Winfield’s exceptional performance last season, including his becoming first non-LB to lead team in tackles, positions him to potentially reset the safety market, whether staying with the Bucs or exploring free agency. If a deal isn’t reached by March 5, Winfield may receive the franchise tag, projected at $16.2 million for 2024. Or else if he remains with the team in 2024, his contract is anticipated to be significantly larger than his rookie deal of 4 years, around $7.3 million.
