Nicole Pechanec was born on August 18, 1990, in Newark, New Jersey. She became quite an extraordinary gymnast at a tender age. Nicole’s passion for gymnastics was inspired by her mother, Yvette, a former gymnast herself. Next? Nicole went on to compete in the World and European Championships. That too, before enrolling at Stanford.
At Stanford, she captained the Cardinal gymnastics team and made history as the only freshman to compete twice in the NCAA Championships. The story doesn’t end there. She even earned accolades like team MVP and second-team All-Pac 10 honors during her sophomore and junior years. Moving on to her academic career, Pechanec pursued a degree in architectural engineering, an academic choice that connected her to Luck.
They began dating in 2008 and over a decade later, in 2019, they tied the knot at a private ceremony in Prague, Czech Republic. Shortly after the marriage, the couple welcomed their daughter, Lucy, and fatherhood added a positive impact to Andrew’s life after his surprising retirement. However, Pechanec’s professional journey didn’t stop with architectural engineering.
She completed an internship at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, worked as an architectural designer, and later pursued an MBA from Indiana University. Quite a profile she has got there, doesn’t she? But this again was not the end of it all. Her versatility shines far beyond. And her passion for sports led her to a career in broadcasting. She is currently a field producer for NBC Sports and ESPN.
In addition to her broadcasting career, Nicole has been actively involved in promoting gymnastics and mentoring young athletes. And she shines through in her personal life too. Being married to an NFL star is not easy. They say marriage is about equality. Is it though? One would say, it’s more to do with equity. Why? Let’s explore.
Building a Life with Andrew Luck
Well, marriage is not about equality because when the chips are down for one person, the other needs to put in a little extra effort to make things easy. But mind you, it goes both ways. Luck and Pechanec’s bond teaches us just that.
Luck’s decision to retire at 29 stemmed from a series of debilitating injuries. Especially a torn labrum in 2015. Despite going through multiple rehab stints, Luck’s shoulder never fully recovered. The more he forced his body, the worse the injuries became, leading to mental and emotional strain. The mental pain still hasn’t gone away as Luck wrote on X, “While my sidearm is permanently holstered — I shall help train other young men to be great soldiers,” reflecting on his struggles while adorning his new challenge as GM at Stanford.

Dearest mother —
The battleground has called for my glorious return. I’m thrilled to say, I shall heed that call.I have reenlisted.
While my sidearm is permanently holstered — I shall help train other young men to be great soldiers. Please send care packages of squirrel oil…

Nevertheless, Pechanec, whose gymnastic career came to an end due to injuries, could surely relate to Luck’s injury-plagued football career. She was there for him through thick and thin, but Luck’s withdrawal made her consider walking away from the relationship at one point. Thankfully, Luck acknowledged his self-absorbed behavior and worked on becoming more emotionally available. Putting an extra effort when the other person is struggling, get it?
Today, the Lucks reside in Indianapolis, where they lead a low-profile but impactful life. Through all the ups and downs of professional and personal life, Nicole and Andrew’s story is a testament to resilience, love, and shared purpose.
