Can Tyquan Thornton's speed and talent finally shine with the Chiefs, or will injuries hold him back?

Tyquan Thornton, a Miami native and standout wide receiver, is making waves by signing with the Chiefs! Making a solid journey from Booker T. Washington Senior High School to the NFL, no one is as proud of him as his parents, Latasha Jackson and Tyrone Thornton. Beginning his NFL career with the New England Patriots in the 2022 NFL Draft, he is now getting a fresh opportunity in a high-powered offense, alongside Patrick Mahomes.

Now, as he has secured great momentum, Tyquan has the opportunity to accelerate his career. And, with this, he has made his parents’ dream come true. Tyquan’s parents, who have deep connections to the University of Miami, are championing his aspirations with all zest!

Who are Latasha Jackson and Tyrone Thornton?

For Tyquan, his parents Latasha and Tyrone have quite strongly supported his football dreams, without any hesitation. Latasha Jackson has kept a sense of cohesiveness, both within the family and in her workplace. Since 2019, she has been working at the Whole Foods Market in Miami. And, her profile also extends to the University of Miami, wherein she works as an Assistant Manager.

Not only Tyquan’s mom, but his dad, Tyrone Thornton, is also employed at the University of Miami working as a cook. He is also working at Mahoney Pearson Dining Hall in Miami, Florida. He originally hails from Overtown, UK. And, he completed his graduation from Miami Jackson Senior High in 1996.

Back in 2021, when Tyquan completed his graduation from Baylor University, he shared a photo of himself donning a student-athlete tag on his graduation attire, as posed alongside his parents. Showing a glimpse of it, he posted it on his IG platform, penning a very beautiful caption that reads, “You can’t enjoy the sunshine if you have never stood in the rain, #blessed.” Not only this, Tyquan was also seen alongside his parents and his agent, Ron Butler, when his performance at the NFL went viral, as he felt thankful for their company.

A look at Tyquan’s career

Tyquan’s high school career is drenched in excellence, as he clinched the title of two-time All-Dade honoree at his school. And, later joining Baylor University, playing, he was once again on the Baylor’s football roster, earning titles with All-Big 12 Second Team honors. When he joined the Patriots after this, his speed clocked at 4.28 seconds in the 40-yard dash, for which he drew enormous attention.

But things were not smooth, as injuries disrupted his trajectory. He suffered a fractured clavicle in 2022, and there were many other setbacks in 2023. But, there have been notable moments with great stats.

But, eventually, he was released from the Patriots on November 16, 2024. However, in just two days, the Kansas City Chiefs took to sign Thornton on the practice squad. And, owing to this, NFL analyst Ian Rapoport went on to comment, “[Thornton] will have a chance to turn his career around with the Chiefs.” As he is poised to play on the team’s defense alongside Patrick Mahomes, and under HC Andy Reid, Tyquan is indeed set to make his parents proud once again!
