Tyler Conklin has witnessed people around him battling mental health issues. His grandparents, Judith and Thurman, suffered from dementia, and he was lucky enough to know them before their illness kicked in. His uncle on the maternal side, Terry, took his own life when Tyler was just two – these heartbreaking losses have made him appreciate everything around him.
They have also taught Conklin the value of family and how sticking with them takes precedence over everything. After his uncle’s death, his mother, Diana, started working towards suicide prevention and awareness. These incidents brought him closer to his siblings, Trevor and Tori; Tyler Conklin even remarked they are the “two of the most important people in my life.”

The Conklin family comes from Chesterfield, Michigan. Tori Conklin went to L’Anse Creuse High School North where she played volleyball. While she’s difficult to find on social media, there are still some key things we know about her. For instance, she’s a Court Appointed Special Advocate for Children at Wayne County CASA and lives in Detroit, MI, per her LinkedIn.
She had a part-time bartending job that she did for two years, and she also volunteers for animal adoption services. But her professional career doesn’t stop here – she also works as a law clerk at Hewson & Van Hellemont, P.C. on a part-time basis. As far as higher education is concerned, she has a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Albion College, currently studying to become a Doctor of Law from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law.

Coming to Tyler’s brother Trevor, he went to Findlay High School growing up. Trevor followed in his brother’s footsteps and started playing football for the Central Michigan Chippewas, the same college that Tyler went to. However, Trevor played briefly for two years and participated in 4 games as a linebacker during that time. Unfortunately, we don’t know much about him, but there’s a heart-touching incident that you might want to know about.
The cherished memory of Tyler’s grandparents
As we mentioned earlier, Conklin’s maternal grandfather, Thurman Winfred Garner, contracted dementia. It came to a point where he couldn’t even remember her daughter, Diana (Tyler’s mother). However, he didn’t forget about Tyler and his brother and sister. “I like to think he remembered me the most,” Tyler quipped, smiling. “I was always the football player, Trevor was always the one in the military, Tori was the volleyball player. He always remembered the kids a lot.”
To honor his grandparents’ memories, Tyler laced up in custom designed cleats that had his grandmother’s face on the right cleat and his grandfather’s face on the left. The cleat was in signature Vikings‘ signature colorway. The boot sported a brown cowboy boot, a hat, and a hummingbird to honor the memories of his maternal grandparents in the Vikings-Panthers game back in 2021.
