The American Samoan heritage is proud of what Tua Tagovailoa is today! It’s true that Tagovailoa has faced numerous injuries throughout his NFL career, but it cannot be denied that whenever he has participated in games, he has performed quite successfully.

This past season too, the Miami Dolphins quarterback helped lead his team to reach the playoffs. Additionally, he finished the season with a league-leading 4,624 passing yards. He became the first Miami QB to do so after Dan Marino in 1992. But as they say, behind every person’s success, there is the hard work of many others. For Tua, it was his parents!

Tua Tagovailoa was born to Galu and Diane Tagovailoa (originally from Hawaii) on March 2, 1998. They married in Ewa Beach in 1998, and shortly after that their eldest son, Tua, was born. Tua’s grandfather, Seu Tagovailoa, was a respectful leader in their community. He wanted to see his grandson play in the NFL. However, unfortunately, he passed away in 2014, just five years before Tua’s NFL career. Tagovailoa’s father, Galu, is the CEO, owner, and coach of Raising Champions LLC, the foundation which focuses on training athletes with an emphasis on religion, culture, and family.

After the demise of Tua’s grandfather, Galu encouraged his son to pursue football and even coached him to become a professional athlete. But the coaching wasn’t as easy as it might look. ESPN aired a special about the father-son duo, where Galu expressed, “Two things in a Tagovailoa is your faith and your discipline. It’s simple.” He informed that he used the “Bible and the belt” approach to teach his son discipline. Additionally, he highlighted that he forced Tua to throw from left hand as he himself was a leftie.

On the other hand, there is not much known about Tua’s mother, Diane, as she keeps herself away from the spotlight. However, in the same interview, she explained her husband’s parenting approach, saying, “The evaluation from dad is the most honest.” And probably yes, that worked for the Dolphins QB.

Apart from Tua, Galu and Diane have two daughters, Taylor and Taysia, and a son Taulia. Tua’s younger brother, Taulia Tagovailoa, is also an emerging star footballer.

At Maryland, he became the starting quarterback in 2021. There he set records in the Big Ten conference for passing yards (11256 yards). Despite his impressive college career, Taulia went undrafted in the NFL this year. Despite trying out with the Cardinals and Seahawks, he did not secure a roster spot.

However now, the 24 years old is heading to the CFL. And his parents are playing a huge part in his life too, to help him chase his dreams.
