Do you think Trey Benson's success is more about talent or the support from his parents?

Trey Benson, the Arizona Cardinals running back, has a strong foundation behind him – his family. His parents, Kurtrell Benson and Christina Wright, have played a vital role in shaping his athletic career and personal growth. As Trey’s impressive performances on the field continue to garner attention, his parents’ influence remains a constant source of support and inspiration.

After starting at O’Bannon High School in Greenville, Mississippi, and subsequently moving to St. Joseph Catholic High School in Greenville, this skilled running back had an incredible high school football career. Benson amassed 48 touchdowns and 3,616 yards in his final two years of high school. However, Benson had some difficulties in his early college years. Sadly, he had an ACL tear, which kept him out of the 2020 campaign. He did, however, mount a formidable return in 2021, logging six carries for 22 yards and a touchdown.

Kurtrell Benson and Christina Wright are the parents of Trey Benson. Christina Wright is a nurse by profession. Speaking about her son, she said (via 247sports.com) that she had always thought he was incredibly bold, driven, and ambitious to be attending a college so far from home.

Having said that, she added that she was devastated to learn of her son’s condition when she learned of his knee injury in Oregon. She made the long journey from her hometown to be with her kid while he was undergoing surgery and rehabilitation. “Momma’s boy” is how Trey Benson has characterized himself in interviews.

“I’m a momma’s boy. I love my dad too, but I’m a momma’s boy. I wanted to be closer. Here I’m six hours away from home right now. It’s a six-hour drive. Because my family, they’re scared to fly. Being six hours away from home is a blessing because they can always drive. Oregon, I was 36 hours away. 36 hours is just a hard drive. So you want to fly. But they didn’t want to fly. So I wanted to come back closer to home.”

Talking about Trey Benson’s father, Kurtrell Benson works as a heavy truck driver. There isn’t any other publicly accessible information concerning his life. However, Trey Benson has pretty much hit the headlines with his latest deal with the Cardinals.

Days before the club reports to training camp, third-round running back Trey Benson signed a four-year rookie contract with the Arizona Cardinals on July 18, 2024. The Cardinals’ offseason work ended earlier than the rest of the class signed, and after that window closed, there was bound to be a delay because the front office took their yearly vacation. This week saw a resurgence of a few signings as teams approached camp. Following Benson’s signing, wide receiver Malachi Corley, who was selected before Benson in the third round, was signed by the Jets.

“I haven’t been anxious,” Benson said. “I knew it was going to happen at one point. I just kept my head down and continued to work.”

However, Benson continued to work with the team during the offseason and participated in all rookie community events despite not being signed. Most recently, he was a part of the group that worked out with quarterback Kyler Murray prior to camp.
