Can strong family support be the secret weapon behind Quentin Johnston's NFL rise?

“I’m so proud of you,” Quentin Johnston‘s mom, Sherry, iterated. When he was drafted by the Los Angeles Chargеrs in the 2023 NFL draft, the mother-son bond went viral. It indeed showcased that his parents is incredibly proud of his current standings in the NFL.

It is no wonder that with his army veteran mom and dad, Carl’s support, Quentin has carved his way into the NFL. By scoring 17.2% of his targets this season, he indeed has been establishing himself as the dominant wide receiver. Even the former TCU player left many in awe in his rookie year by posting two impressive TDs with 431 on 38 receptions. Even, HC Jim Harbaugh adored him, saying “one of our top guys right now”. Seemingly, he made all this possible with the strong backing of his parents.

Q-Money has a great impact of his parents in his life. Carl and Sherry Johnston beautifully instilled work ethics and athletic discipline in him. Johnston’s mom, Sherry, who shares a great bond with him, has played the proviral role in shaping his NFL successful trajectory.

Johnston’s mother served in the US Army.  She played a crucial role during Operation Desert Storm and Desert Shield as an ex-serviceman. Post serving in the U.S. Army,  Chargers WR’s mom also served as a secretary at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Temple, Texas for 24 years. Apart from serving in the army, her role as the most supportive mom also gained much attention. She has been the constant pillar of support to her both sons, Quentin and Xavier.

Earlier during an interview, Quentin shed light on her mom’s sacrifices, which helped him in shaping his athletic career. During the draft-night speech, the NFL WR even recounted a time when his mother sacrificed her own favorite passion of singing in church to shuttle him to a basketball competition.

It was Quentin who announced her retirement during his draft-night party in Dallas. At the moment, when Quentin inked the four-year rookie contract deal with the Chargers at $14.19 million, he declared that his mom was not going to work anymore.

“I just want to give a big shout-out to my mom. She’s going to be putting her two weeks’ notice in today. She can retire. I don’t want you working another day,” he remarked. It indeed reflected mom and son’s strong bond.

Even though Sherry initially “couldn’t believe it,” later she was ready to join her army husband, Carl in retirement.

Not only his mom but his dad, Carl, is also an Army veteran. He helped him in shaping his athletic trajectory. And when commissioner Roger Goodell announced his son’s entry into the NFL. He could not hide his emotions.

“We went over that a few times and once it came to it, the way he put it out there, it was just so eloquent,” The way he did it, it was flowing. I said, ‘Man, you did a great job,” he remarked. It indeed showcases his dad’s belief in him. Seemingly, with his parents’ resilient upbringing and true leadership, he has made his own route to the high-stakes world of the NFL.

Quentin Johnston’s present rankings are sufficient to establish his status in the NFL world. With his athletic accomplishments, it is clear that the NFL wide receiver has truly compensated for his parents’ upbringing.

Even earlier, Temple, Texas, native, Quentin himself highlighted his parents’ sacrifices. During an interview, he even thanked his military parent’s backing, which helped him to achieve his NFL aspirations.

Both of my parents were in the Army. The baseline of who I am, of Quentin, is based on discipline and respect,” Johnston stated. Apart from that, the NFL player also declared that just because of true mentoring, he has now become what he is today.  “And, something that I’m going to keep doing,” he further added.

Not only this, but Johnston also expressed his gratitude to his parents for developing his early routine habits.  “There was a lot of waking up early in the morning just to do whatever — a lot of everything, being on-point. I got used to it and that’s just how I move now,” Quentin stated during his draft day speech. It truly showed his affectionate relationship with his parents.
