Nik Bonitto, the outside linebacker for the Denver Broncos, gifted a beautiful surprise to his mother on Mother’s Day in 2022. Bonitto, a talented edge rusher from the University of Oklahoma, had an unforgettable visit with the Broncos in mid April in 2022.

Unlike his other visits, this one left him so excited that he called his father, Vincent, from the airport to share how much he loved it. This excitement translated into action as the Broncos, who didn’t have a draft pick until the 64th spot, selected Bonitto due to his impressive talent, despite already having five quality edge rushers. Well, that depicts Bonitto had a strong luck and family’s prayers with him.

Nik Bonitto and his brother Gerrard Bonitto grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and were raised by their parents, Vincent Bonitto and Sandra Penn. Vincent has Cuban and Jamaican roots, while Sandra is Haitian. The couple, who divorced in 2022 after their 23 years of marriage, remain best friends today. They have even supported the professional athlete throughout his journey. Sandra recalled Nik’s childhood nickname, “Baby Feet,” due to his unique way of running, and shared how he began playing football at five years old, despite sometimes preferring video games.

By profession, Vincent worked long hours as a distributor for about 17 years, while Sandra, a nurse, maintained a daily routine with their sons. In an early interview, Nik appreciated his mother’s sacrifices, including driving him to school and practices.

Additionally, despite Sandra’s nerves, Nik never felt intimidated. This resilience continued through high school, and after a lot of hard work and sacrifices of his parents, finally the Bonitto family’s dream came true!

Nik Bonitto’s draft day!

During the nerve-wracking 2022 draft process, Nik Bonitto sat with his family in their Fort Lauderdale living room, feeling both anticipation and support. His mother, Sandra Penn, who was sitting beside him, provided calm reassurance, emphasizing faith and patience. She said, “Wherever God wants you to be, that’s where you’ll end up, whether it’s the first round, second round, seventh round. This is where you’re meant to be.” When the Broncos called Bonitto’s name in the second round, his dream became a reality, and the room erupted in joy.

Moreover, as the athlete transitioned to the NFL, his family remained supportive. Sandra even received a welcoming call from Pat Surtain II’s mother, as their sons had been rivals in high school and were now teammates. The day after the draft, Nik, Sandra, and Vincent visited Denver, touring the Broncos’ facilities and meeting the team. Bonitto’s mother expressed immense pride in her son’s achievements, seeing them as the best Mother’s Day gift she could ever receive. She expressed, “This is the best Mother’s Day gift that I could ever have had. Knowing that his dreams came true, all of our hard work came true, that was the best for me. That was it. I don’t care what I get anymore.”

Well, that was a perfect mother-son moment, as this memorable gift from her son will always be close to Sandra’s heart!
