“It gives me the confidence and strength to be proud of all that I accomplished.” These are the words that Nelson Agholor stated about his parents, Caroline and Felix Agholor. The Baltimore Ravens WR continues to achieve new heights in his NFL career. After signing the $3.25 million deal in 2023 with the Ravens, the Super Bowl LII champion secured an impressive four TDs in 35 passes for 381 yards.

His extraordinary leadership skills and splendid records left many NFL enthusiasts in awe. It all became possible with his parents’ constant support. Nelson repeatedly adores his mom and dad for pushing him to actualize his NFL dreams. The WR was raised in a family where finances were a major problem. However, his parents worked hard and took up several jobs to give their children a good education and fulfill their basic needs.

Agholor’s dad, Felix, is a former collegiate soccer player who later had to give up the sport to manage finances for his five children. He eventually became a janitor at the University of South Florida. On the other hand, his mom, Caroline, also inspired him. She worked at a nursing home to help with the household’s financial problems.

Agholor’s parents have Nigerian roots and later moved to Tampa, USA, with their four children at that time. Fortunately, Agholor won the Visa lottery through the U.S. State Department’s Diversity Immigrant Visa program. With a dream to live in the USA, his mom entered her family name into the program. After winning the visa, they received permanent resident cards.

They used to live in a small three-room apartment. Nelson shared his room with his two brothers, Franklin and Kobe while his two sisters shared another. Just like Nelson, his oldest brother, Franklin Agholor, is also a sports enthusiast. He is a pro basketball player who plays as a point guard for ADL Montana.

Despite their challenges in managing jobs and children, Nelson Agholor’s parents raised him and his siblings with discipline, ethics, and values, which paved the path for Nelson to actualize his NFL dream. In his short tenure with the Eagles, he realized these values. Earlier, Agholor shed light on the values that his parents developed in him. “I think I understand the way life works,” Agholor continued. “I don’t feel like I’m entitled to anything. This is a blessing to be in this position and the Eagles organization to think enough of having me here.”

Despite Felix having played sports in college, he was initially not pleased with Nelson’s football career, not seeing a future in it. But now, undoubtedly, Felix is proud of Nelson’s football accomplishments. And it is indeed the father of five who instilled the qualities of discipline and determination in the player that has led him to the path of success.

Discipline and love are the foundation of Nelson’s NFL Success

Earlier, the NFL wide receiver revealed his father’s severe temperament, stating that his disciplinarian approach helped him flourish in his NFL career. “It’s very impactful because my dad is a strict disciplinarian and he’s also there. He’s the total package in terms of a father. So, there were times where he was mad at you and you were disciplined, and there were times where he had your back and you were rewarded,” he remarked.

Felix believed in maintaining a high level of discipline, even though the circumstances were tough. And, such disciplinarity gave Nelson and his family the impetus to hold themselves together. From holding his Nigerian identity intact to adapting in the US, Nelson’s upbringing and values were the strong weapons in his armor as he made it into the NFL.

However, his mom balanced out his dad’s seriousness. Whenever Felix would discipline his kids, she would console them and explain the reason for their punishment. Nelson is grateful to his mother for her affection, as he shares a strong bond with her. Years back, on the occasion of Mother’s Day, he took to his official IG handle to pour his love for his mom.

On May 8, 2022, he posted several beautiful snaps of his mom with a lovely caption: “You’ve been my greatest motivation to find success in life, mama. Thank you for loving me and my brothers and sisters unconditionally. Thank you for praying so hard that I stay protected and favored. Happy Mother’s Day to you and all the other moms that are in my life,” he wrote.

Thus, Nelson’s parents have been a guiding light for him due to their experiences reflecting on him.
