Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett never fails to deliver strong performances on the field! And, the reason? A strong backfield support of his parents, Lawrence and Audrey Garrett. One of the NFL’s premier pass rushers, across his 8 years career, he has accumulated phenomenal stats. Being nicknamed “Superman” or “Big Foot,” he has collected multiple accolades, including a 6-time Pro Bowler, a 4-time All-Pro, and the 2023 AP Defensive Player of the Year title, proving himself.
And, for this, his athletic parents are excessively proud. Entering the NFL in 2017, he has truly shown his potential as he is en route to becoming a HoFer candidate. Hence, fans are equally curious to know about his parents, who have been his consistent guiding light and support system.

Who are Lawrence and Audrey Garrett?
Myles’ athletic spirit stems from his parents, who also had impressive collegiate sports records. In fact, his mom, Audrey Garrett is a former All-American track star from Hampton University. Unfortunately, she had to cut her athletic aspirations short due to sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis. However, she did not feel dejected and reoriented her focus toward academics. Pursuing higher education, she enrolled as a doctoral candidate in Strategic Leadership.

On the other hand, Myles’ dad, Lawrence Garrett is a former AAU basketball coach and business owner. He was enrolled at the University of California where he completed his education, and later he pursued coaching. While he never created pressure on Myles to pursue sports, he knew his son had the potential to become an athlete. In the article by The Players Tribune, published in 2017, he notes, “I always knew he’d be an athlete. My wife ran track, I played sports my entire life. It made sense that Myles would love sports too.” And, indeed, things did come together as Lawrence had envisioned.

How have Myles Garrett’s parents helped him propel his NFL career?
Lawrence is quite proud of his son, Myles, who has always been an “obedient kid” and “never had a rebellious stage.” One of the most important things that he taught his son was how to face criticism. He remarks, “I’ve always told Myles that not everybody is going to love him. There will be people who are negative toward him just because they can be,” as mentioned in the same article as stated above. Through this, Lawrence prepared his son for public scrutiny.
