Athleticism runs deep in the Lombardi family. Michael Lombardi, who is currently making waves for his new role as the GM at UNC, instilled sports ethics and values in his sons, Matt and Mick Lombardi, whom he shares with his wife Millie Lombardi. Newly appointed North Carolina general manager’s both sons are deeply involved in the football world.
The former New England Patriots coach’s successful career trajectory showcases that he diversified himself in different roles in the football world. Just like his NFL legendry dad, Matt and Mick Lombardi also have a strong passion for football. Currently, Mick, 36, is serving for the 49ers as a senior offensive assistant. Interestingly, his dad, Michael Lombardi, also started his NFL career with the San Francisco in 1984.
Not only this, Mick also served as an assistant coach with several other NFL teams led by his dad, including the Patriots, and Raiders. Mick also worked for the Jets as an assistant coach.
Not only Mick, but Tar Heels GM’s other son, Matt Lombardi, also followed his footprints into the NFL world. Impressively, in 2023, he too served as the assistant wide receivers coach and offensive assistant for the Raiders—the same team which his dad worked with. From 1988 to 2007, Michael served as the senior personnel executive for the Oakland.
Not only this, Matt also worked as a quality control coach and tight-end graduate assistant for the Cardinals from 2014 to 2016. Following this, Matt also guided the Bears and Dolphins teams as the Quality Control Coach. During his six years of coaching career, he noted a win/loss record of 34-65-0.

In fact, Michael used to quote legendary coach Vince Lombardi at the dinner table. Even they used to have backyard plays, where they were named “Batman” and “Robin.” However, the Lombardi’s sons are grateful for their NFL dad’s support.

Not only this, during the same interview, the 49ers’s senior offensive assistant also asserted that it was his dad who told him that the domain of the NFL is quite performance-oriented, and winning is very important in the field. “My dad always says, ‘This is the business we chose’,” Mick Lombardi remarked.
