Can we all agree that Annie Bergeron is the real MVP behind Matthew Bergeron's NFL journey?

“He’s a positive guy, It’s not his way to give up,” Matthew Bergeron’s mom, Annie once said. Her statement depicts how much Annie believes in her NFL son. Without a shred of doubt, Matthew’s mom was the one who played a vital role in shaping his NFL journey. From his time at Syracuse University to his entry into the NFL, Annie continued to push him toward his goals.

Now, entering his 2 season with the Atlanta Falcons, the NFL guard is forever grateful to his single parent, Annie with whom he shares a strong bond. However, there is no info available about his Congolese dad. Reportedly, his mom raised him and his other 3 siblings all alone. Fans are equally invested in knowing about her.

Quebec, Canada native, Annie Bergeron has inspired Matthew and her other kids in many ways. Despite facing the challenges of raising her children as a single mom, she never gave up. However, there is very limited information available about her personal background and profession. Allegedly, the mom of four worked hard and did multiple jobs to fulfill her kids’ basic requirements, as their father was not involved in their upbringing.

Soon after Annie realized her younger son, Matthew’s football talent, she became his biggest motivator by learning the basics terms of the sport.  As a Francophone, she was not familiar with football English terms like, the Senior Bowl, a scholarship, and NFL combine. So she learned these terms from the internet to get involved in boosting her son’s football skills.

Besides this, Annie did not miss even a single game of him. When Matthew and some of his high school friends from Cégep de Thetford were asked to participate in Syracuse University’s Dino Babers football camp in 2018, Annie traveled nearly 6 hours from their home in Victoriaville to Syracruse to cheer for him. It was really an emotional moment for Bergeron’s mom, as this was the first step for him to learn more about football to achieve his NFL glory.

Previously, during an interview, the 2022 Syracuse captain’s mom expressed her exhilaration as it was his dream come true. “It’s just because everything for me and Matthew was completely new. We didn’t even think it was possible. It was a dream. It was a dream for all the kids who play football to go to the NFL, but when you come from Quebec, a small town like Victoriaville, to think one day you’ll even play NCAA, it’s a dream. But for Matthew it happened,” Annie remarked.

She also instilled in him work ethic and athletic discipline. She developed the family values in him that forged bonds between him and his two other brothers MacArthur, and Malcolm, and  1 sister, Kimberley. Spending time babysitting his younger siblings indeed helped him forge better bonds that thrive to this day.

The strong between Matthew and his family

If Matthew is around Victoriaville, he makes sure to visit Kimberly, to watch her play basketball. For Kimberley and MacArthur, he has become a role model, as they both are sports enthusiasts. MacArthur has also played basketball, while his youngest brother Malcolm is not involved in the sports. But, as per his mom, Malcolm “knows all the sports,” well.

Even though he is the eldest of four siblings, his mother never put burdens on him to take on their responsibilities.  “He was the man of the house. I didn’t want to put that responsibility on his shoulders. It was normal for him to give help, to be there for them,” Annie previously remarked.

With his mom’s on and off-the-field support, he made his way to the NFL. And when he was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons as the second-round pick in the NFL draft in 2023, no one could be even happier than his mom, as her sacrifices really paid off that day.  Prior to his selection in the NFL, his mom expressed her true feelings through an interview.

“My wish as a mom, no matter where Matthew will end up, which team will take him, I just want it to be possible to continue to make those road trips, to go see him, to stay close to each other,” Canadian player’s mom, Annie stated. Seeing their dreams come true, Annie has indeed come forth as the greatest admirer and supporter of her son, Matthew.
