Mason McCormick is indeed on a roll as he has kickstarted his NFL journey! A native of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Mason is contributing to the offensive lineup of the Pittsburgh Steelers, ready to prove his dominance. And, with his start, no one is as proud of him as his parents, Lee McCormick and mom Kibbi.
Mason started as a third-grader surprised by football and eventually fully committed to it, covering it all. He earned the title of two-time All-American at SDSU and is now entering the NFL, ready to impress his fans. That too carrying his family’s support and legacy with him.

Mason McCormick comes from an athletic family. His roots can be traced to his father, Lee McCormick. But, the domain of sports is different! Lee is a former college basketball player, and this prompted Mason to initially take up basketball.
During his collegiate years, his father excelled at basketball at Mount Marty. And, he envisioned the same for his son. When Mason joined in high school, in the sophomore year he took to announce that he intends to pursue football. And, because of this, his father initially saw his aspirations crushed.

Recalling the moment, his father adds, that his son was “almost homeless” due to his decision, as he adds humorously. Reflecting on it, even his wife, Kibbi has a vivid memory of it, adding, “It was a sad day,” and “Lee went into mourning for about two weeks.”
And, as Lee opened up to him in due course of time, he became more accepting of his choices. He asked his son later, “How can I help you?” And, Mason assured him, “Don’t worry, I got it,” as he started to vigorously work out. Lee was quite proud of his son as “he really committed himself.” His son knew all along what he was doing, and his family’s support, including his mom, helped him excel.
Who is Kibbi McCormick?
Not just his dad, but even his mom, Kibbi has always been involved in Mason’s athletic life. Recalling the time when he first experienced football at a young age whilst, in the third grade, she remembers how he was “rude[ly] welcomed to the violent nature of the sport” as he was “knocked flat on his ass” when a game took place at Memorial Middle School.

Mason had a violent reaction post-game. He stomped his feet and cried, “I can’t believe you guys paid money so I could get hurt!” But, now, when she sees his son dominating others on the field with his talent, “pancaking guys and saying mean things to them while they’re laying on the ground, I wonder if maybe that’s in the back of his mind.”
When Kim Nelson, Mason’s coach at high school had suggested he could play college football at a much grander level, his mother was quite taken aback at such a revelation. She was indeed proud of her son, and even considered that leaving basketball was probably for the best.

She remarked, “I couldn’t believe it…We were like, SDSU? Are you [expletive] kidding me? Maybe giving up basketball wasn’t such a bad idea after all.” Down the line, McCormick appreciates his parents that even though basketball was a priority to them, they supported him nonetheless.
Additionally, he shares a close bond with his family, which is evident from his IG profile. Back in 2020, he posted an image with his mom, posing in an SDSU jersey, as Mason McCormick, wrote, “Happy 50 birthday! Love ya mom!” Time and again, he has shown gratitude to them. In November 2023, he posted yet another picture with his family, captioning, “Very Thankful.” Indeed, he is very appreciative of their constant presence in his life, supporting him and keeping him grounded
