Mack Hollins’ trajectory from an overlooked high school athlete to a Super Bowl champion resonates deeply with the fans! But, what is more gratifying is the constant encouragement from his parents, Richard and Karyn Hollins. Signing with the Philadelphia Eagles back in 2017, he has indeed made a diverse NFL career. And, as he signed as a free agent for the 2024 season, he is now making waves with the Buffalo Bills

Hollins was never hard on himself, but his parents taught him to “push myself harder than anybody else.” And, that he did. Now as he excels with excellent career records, rising to prominence, it is time to look at the influence of his parents.

Who Are Richard and Karyn Hollins?

Richard Hollins, Mack’s father, knows the problems of pursuing a football career, aware that it is not a smooth path. Interestingly, he also played college football as a WR at West Virginia University, circa 1980 to 1983. And, he has pretty good stats, recording 105 receptions, 1,981 yards, and 16 touchdowns in 36 games.

But, things did not go down as planned as he faced a drastic turn with a torn ACL, just after he was drafted by the Detroit Lions in 1984. However, even though he quit football, he kept his aspirations alive with his son. Post-football, he started to work as a personal training assistant manager at Lifetime Fitness.

Mack’s mother, Karyn Hollins also has a phenomenal influence on her son’s life. Offering a very warm and loving environment to her son, she always ensured that he remained humble. When Mack was involved in a clash at his high school and had to face three-day suspension, his mother underwent emotional turmoil. He recalled, “Seeing my mom cry over something that I had a part in… gets me more than anything.” And, hence, he has always ensured to keep out of trouble.

On the occasion of her 37th wedding anniversary in 2022, Karyn celebrated it quite evocatively as she penned the caption, “Cast my bait on this day, back in 1985. Happy 37th Anniversary to my favorite catch.” And, to date, the couple continues to love and adore each other.

How has Mack Hollins’ father played a pivotal role in his NFL career?

Richard has ensured that his Mack understands that things require hard work, and it is essential to keep the grill on. He told Mack, “Keep your head down, and don’t let anybody outwork you! When you get out on that field, you give 110 percent.” But, it is as important to stay grounded, despite success. So, he even made sure, “When you come home on the weekends, you’re still gonna cut the grass.”

Richard faced his personal struggles after his heartbreaking injury, which had also brought on financial difficulties. In 2012-2013, Mack almost had to quit college because of this. But, Richard continued to do his best for Mack. And Mack deeply admires his father for this.

Talking about it, he remarks, “My dad made sure I knew what discipline meant, whether it was on the field or off it. He always said, ‘Don’t let anyone outwork you,’ and that’s something I carry with me every day.”
