Do you think Justin Watson's success is more about talent or the strong support from his parents?

For the most part of his professional career, luck has always sided with Justin Watson, who got the chance to contribute to the Super Bowl not once, but thrice. Ever since he joined the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022, it’s been a wild ride with the team winning back-to-back Super Bowls. Guess who was there by his side? His parents, Doug and Terri Watson.

One thing to note about Watson had a kind heart since he was a kid. More so, he cares too much about his siblings. When the receiver was just 7, Justin redeemed all his Chuck E. Cheese tickets to get a football, but he traded it and got a tiara for his sister instead. This story might not mean enough to most, but it’s what made his father, Doug, proud of his son.

“He’s always looking to see how he can help somebody else,” that’s what his mother Terri Watson thinks of him. But it’s not just Justin Watson’s sister that he has a big heart for. It’s also his brother Tommy, who was born with cerebral palsy. It’s his oldest brother who inspires him to maintain a positive attitude through life’s many ups and downs. His parents have been there to witness that throughout their lives.

Doug Watson, Justin’s father, had been working two jobs to support the family. Due to the medical condition of his son, he worked as a client service manager at The Bank of New York Mellon in Pittsburgh by day and held a computer security job by night. We don’t know a lot about his current professional trajectory since his son might be doing most of the heavy lifting now.

There’s also not a lot of information available about his mother’s professional career. However, it’s faintly documented that she used to provide childcare to underprivileged kids back in the day. We’re not sure if she’s continued that noble practice. That’s because Watson’s family life revolved around Tommy for the most part. It’s almost as if taking care of Tommy brought the family together.

“Justin has always looked at Tommy and felt, obviously, touched by Tommy’s physical condition. Because it’s not easy being Tommy,” Terri Watson told KC STAR. “And Justin has thought it out deeply, thanking God for what he does have. He does not take it for granted at all, knowing every time he wakes up and can do something it’s a gift. Because Tommy wasn’t so lucky with that.”

Here’s a testament to Doug and Terri’s character as parents: They didn’t go to places where Tommy didn’t have easy access. They wanted to involve their older son in everything humanly possible so that he doesn’t get left out. It takes a special heart to not consider Tommy’s condition as some kind of a defect and treat him normally. That’s the kind of parents Doug and Terry are.

There’s also a picture of the whole family titled, “Merry Christmas from our family to yours.” The Watson family was kitted out in Bucs gear, feeling like they were on top of the world. But the most iconic part of his NFL journey was when the receiver transferred to the Kansas City Chiefs and won the Super Bowl against the Eagles.

There was confetti flying around, cameras flashing, and Watson’s parents were with him in the midst of all of that, donning the no. 84 jerseys to cheer for their son. His mother lay on the field covered with confetti and started making snow angels with Justin. A moment of true happiness indeed.
