Would Josh Reynolds be in the NFL today if his mom had her way? What do you think?

Josh Reynolds discovered his love for football when he first played as a safety and wide receiver for the Mustangs. Although he was just a teenager at that time, Reynolds garnered plenty of interest from NCAA divisional teams like Oregon State. But unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be, as wide receiver spots quickly filled up, thereby leading Reynolds to Tyler Junior College.

Having spent a year as a freshman at the community college, the former Lions WR kickstarted his semi-professional career with Texas A&M in 2014. With a Music City Bowl appearance a year later, Reynolds finished his college career while holding the school’s season-receiving touchdown record with 13. Even though Reynolds has since spent 6 years in the NFL after getting drafted in 2017, his mom never wanted the Broncos WR to touch football.

Reynolds was not fortunate enough to have a fatherly figure in his life, as little to no information was available about him. His mother has constantly played the role of both parents while excelling as a single mom. Remembering her time as an assistant principal at San Antonio’s Taft High School, Reynolds shared a memory that showed the close bond he has with his mother.

While he was playing for the Detroit Lions in his second season, Reynolds spoke about how school shooting incidents allowed him to remember his mom’s braveness. “Instantly. And how brave is she being. And selfishly, I’d wish she wouldn’t be brave, but unselfishly, got to protect the kids,” Reynolds shared. Although the Broncos WR couldn’t contact his mom immediately after hearing the deadly shooting at Robb Elementary that took away 19 lives. He spoke about the importance of teachers in protecting their children no matter what happens.

Since Michele’s time as an educator and assistant principal, Josh’s Mom has currently found herself working as an academic dean at LV Raiders. But her continued support for Reynold’s making his way to the NFL was evident from the way she looked after his tuition tabs as a freshman. However, what could be the reason that led Michele to have second thoughts about Josh playing football?

Why Did she not Want Josh Reynolds to play football?

Michele Reynolds was pretty sure that she never wanted Josh to play football. “You just see the violence of the game, and you read about the concussions and potential injuries of the game. That was my big thing, not wanting my boys to get hurt.” Well, looking at her tensed words, Michele was nowhere to be contradicted, as football is indeed a physical game. She thought basketball was a safer option as Josh even had the height to his advantage, standing at 6 foot 3 inches.

But it was Josh Reynolds’ passion for football that melted her mom’s heart. “I went in his room, and he was in bed, asleep with his helmet and pads on.” Even talking about the journey from those college days, Reynolds shared, “It kind of took off from there. I feel in love with the sport. I finally decided football was going to be my sport. My mom ended up being fine with it. It was her baby boy, you know how that goes with moms. I’m athletic, so I was just out there balling.”

Although the former Jay high school girl’s soccer coach did bow down to his son’s dream of playing football. Looking back, it might not be a wrong decision as Josh Reynolds has since played for the Rams, Lions, Titans and now the Broncos. With a new chapter waiting to get written at Mile High End, we can hope that Michele is watching her son make waves while feeling proud of her decision.
