Does Josh Oliver's athletic pedigree give him an edge over other NFL players?

Josh Oliver is lucky enough to have strong athletic roots! His NFL successful career’s trajectory is truly a testament to his parents’ athletic aspirations. While he was drafted by Jacksonville as a third-round selection back in 2019, he has succeeded in carving out a spot for himself with his splendid performances.

Interestingly, signing a three-year contract deal with the Minnesota Vikings last year was another significant milestone for him. It amounts to a hefty $90 million contract for three years of allegiance. He made 14 starts in 17 games last season, recording two touchdowns with posting career highs 213 yards on 22 receptions. With this, his athletic parents, Barbara and René Oliver are even very proud of him.

Vikings TE’s father, Rene Oliver, also played as a cornerback at Cal Poly in 1987 and 1988. He established himself in the All-Western Conference first-team at Coly Poly where he found his love for his life, Barbara. Before joining Cal Poly, René also played football for 2 years at Golden West College.

Until his Cal Poly career ended, everything was going smoothly. Rene also had NFL aspirations, but an injury disrupted his plans. Clearly, he was the one who beautifully instilled athletic discipline and values in Josh.

Even former Baltimore Ravens TE never fails to give credit for his current standings to his football star dad, René Oliver. Previously, during a candid discussion, when he was in his rookie year with Jacksonville, Oliver disclosed the huge impact of his parents on his NFL journey. Junior Oliver also adored his dad as his biggest cheerleader.

“And the support of my family — I would not be where I am today without all of them,” Oliver stated. Being a blissful child, he also appreciated his upbringing. “Not too many people have parents like I do who traveled to all my games, paid for my sporting events, and have just always been there for me,” he added.

He shares a deep regard and strong bond with his dad. It was also hyped when he addressed his dad as the real “MVP”. On the occasion of Father’s Day in June 2017, he took to his official IG handle to demonstrate his profound affection for his dad. Along with sharing his football enthusiast dad’s throwback picture, featuring him in Cal Poly’s uniform, he gave the cheeky caption to his post. “Happy Father’s Day pops you the real MVP, blessed to be able to have you in my life,” Josh Oliver mentioned in his post caption.

However, not only does Josh Oliver relishes the opportunity to be the son of a football legend, but his father also feels thrilled to have him.

Back in 2015, former Paso Robles High School standout athlete signed NCAA National Letters of Intent with his high school teammates. During this moment, his parents showcased their unwavering faith in him, applauding his football skills.

During an interview, his dad disclosed his exhilaration at his career milestone. “For us, all of this has been really gratifying,” he stated. Besides that, he also revealed that his son really “worked so hard.” And he continued, adding, “we are looking forward to this upcoming year; he is excited and we are just as excited as we think about watching him in San Jose.”

Clearly, with his father’s true guidance and backing, he has reached his prominent status in the NFL. Fortunately, his sporting mother, Barbara, has also encouraged him throughout his journey.

NFL TE also shares a healthy relationship with his mom, Barbara Oliver who also established herself as a standout basketball player. She played basketball at junior college, Cuesta, in California. Being an athletic mother to her three children, including Josh Oliver, she pushed all of them to achieve their athletic aspirations. Oliver’s two other siblings, Jonno and Ben, are also football players.

Earlier, during an interview, Barbara showcased her belief in Josh’s ability when he had just started his NFL career with the Jaguars.  “Nobody ever made it a big deal,” Barbara stated. “It was like, ‘OK, if you want to do that, you can achieve it.’ It wasn’t this unachievable goal.”

However, it was not only his mom, who has deep faith in him, but Josh Oliver’s love for his mom also caught the public eye. On the occasion of Mother’s Day, back in 2018, NFL TE took to his official IG handle to express his true feelings for his mom. On May 14, 2018, he posted a lovely snap with his mom with a heartwarming note. “Happy Mother’s Day to my beautiful ma and everyone else! You continue to be an inspiration, love you momma!” he wrote.

Besides that, in 2019, he also wished his mom a happy birthday through an IG post. It highlighted his strong bond with his mom. “Happy Birthday to the one and only, Love you ma!!,” he captioned his post. Such wholesome bonding gives him the needed push to do his best, always.
