The 2023 season marked two eras for the Green Bay Packers team. One era of Aaron Rodgers ended with the squad, while another started with their new quarterback, Jordan Love. Often compared with A-Rod, Love proved his worth with the team when he led the Green Gang into the playoffs, perfectly filling in the shoes of Rodgers.

So, now for the Packers nation, Love might be the superhero. However, for the quarterback, his superhero will always be his dad, whom he lost when he was just 14 years old.

Jordan Love was born on November 2, 1998, in Bakersfield, California, to Anna and Orbin Love. His mother, Anna, was an officer for the California Highway Patrol. His father, Orbin, who played quarterback up to the junior college level, taught him to throw a football and often played catch with him. Orbin believed strongly in his son’s potential, often telling his colleagues that Jordan would make it to the NFL. Orbin later became a sergeant in the Bakersfield Police Department.

However, in 2013, when Jordan was only 14, Orbin tragically took his own life at the age of 51. This loss deeply affected Jordan, who considered quitting football. Despite his grief, Anna encouraged him to continue playing for another year, honoring his father’s dream of seeing him as an NFL player. Jordan then picked up, but faced adversity in high school, initially playing as a backup quarterback and wide receiver before becoming the starting quarterback. With the support of his mother and three sisters (Kami, Emily, and Alexis), he overcame these challenges and continued to pursue his football career.

At 25, Jordan acknowledged his family’s support, especially his mother, who has been his biggest cheerleader. She was present at his first career start in Kansas City in 2021 and in Chicago when he became the starter for the Packers, succeeding A-Rod. Jordan describes his mother as a “superstar” and a blessing for always supporting him and his sisters.

Indeed, Love’s growth from backup to main QB has been remarkable. And now this season, he is expecting an extension in his contract.

De’Vondre Campbell’s contract will help Love’s deal extension?

The Packers have cleared financial space by officially removing linebacker De’Vondre Campbell’s contract from their salary cap. This move will help them pay for quarterback Jordan Love’s upcoming contract extension. The Packers released Campbell on March 10, for not finding him a big time investment, using a post-June 1 designation, after allowing them to spread his dead-money cap hit over the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

Initially, Campbell’s 2024 cap charge was $14.23 million. By using this strategy, the Packers saved about $10.57 million on the 2024 cap, leaving Campbell with a $3.66 million cap hit for that year and $7.97 million for 2025. As a result, the Packers are now about $30.38 million under the cap, one of the best positions in the league. With this freed-up cap space, the Packers can now focus on Jordan Love’s contract extension, potentially worth around $200 million over four years.

The structure of Love’s contract will be crucial, and the Packers may choose between giving him a large Year 1 base salary or back-loading the contract to manage future cap charges.
