Does Jon Runyan Sr.'s strict parenting style make or break his son's NFL career?

Do you think your parents are strict? Well, according to New York Giants guard Jon Runyan, his father is a strict man for his children. But that didn’t let the bond between them die. They are each other’s strengths today as well.

With 67,706 spectators, Jon Runyan was the one who saw his dad playing for the Eagles against the Packers in the 2003 NFL Playoff win. Yes! His father was in the NFL playing as Philadelphia’s stalwart right tackle. But there is more about him and Jon Runyan’s momma Loretta.

Born on August 8, 1997, Jon Runyan is the only son of dad Jon Runyan Sr. and mom Loretta. Besides him, the couple also share two daughters, Isabella and Alyssa, who are basketball players at the Moorestown Friends School. By profession, Loretta is reportedly a “Real Estate Agent at Compass in Moorestown, New Jersey, USA.” In addition to that, she is also a strong pillar of support for her family, especially helping her children in their respective careers.

On the other hand, besides being a former OT in the league and a Pro Bowl player, Daddy Runyan Sr. was also a U.S. Congressman and even served as the NFL’s vice president of football operations. Seeing his father, Jon Runyan too grew up choosing the same profession. However, he allegedly tried to distance himself from his dad after college due to Runyan Sr.’s strict nature. But unfortunately, that couldn’t happen.

While narrating an odd incident once, Jon Runyan Jr. said, “I thought since I left for college, I wouldn’t have to deal with him punishing me anymore, but I was wrong about that.” Actually what happened was, after a game against the Giants (when he was with the Packers), Runyan was fined $5,215 by the NFL for his leg-whipping moment. However, an interesting part of this is, that this fine was actually imposed by his father, Runyan Sr. himself, who was the VP of policy and rules administration at that time.

He even sent a letter to his son. He warned Jon Runyan “that further offenses will result in an escalation of disciplinary action, up to and including suspension.” Talking about the same, the Giants player said, “My dad and I always joked about this happening. But I never thought my style of play would ever warrant what he deemed to be unnecessary roughness, but it happened.” Nevertheless, still, the two share a strong bond with each other. And Daddy’s influence has surely helped Jon Runyan in his upbringing in his football career.
