If there’s one player who solely dominates his position compared to his counterparts, it has to be Jack Fox. You see, there could be a debate on who’s the best QB or wide receiver or RB but going by the stats for any current punter, Jack out ‘Foxes’ everyone. Yep, the Lions punter with 2 Pro Bowl Selections and All-Pro Selections each is the king of his position, he’s probably earning big bucks now. But there’s very little we know about his personal life, especially his parents.

Fox is the likable guy in the Lions’ camp and this comes from the journey that he took to get here. His mother Beth and dad Pat were pillars of his success. Like most of the athletes, it’s the dad who initiates the interest in sport while the mom makes sure the journey goes on. Similarly, the Lions punter had a journey that was fueled by both his mom and dad.

Who is Jack Fox’s mom?

Beth Fox is pretty awesome in the pet care world. She juggles client info, and schedules, and promotes pet services like a champ. When she’s not working, you’ll find her playing tennis with her son, Jack. He usually wins, but for Beth, it’s all about having fun. She loves spending time outdoors with her close-knit family. They enjoy all sorts of activities together.

Moreover, Beth made sure Jack had every opportunity to succeed growing up. She sent him to Ladue Horton Watkins High School. Jack got involved in the middle school football program and even started a tradition of shaking hands with coaches after practice. Beth’s support shaped Jack into the dedicated athlete he is today. Her influence played a huge role in his journey to the NFL.

Who is the Lions punter’s Dad?

Jack Fox’s dad Pat Fox was the kind of guy who never stopped moving. Whether it was tossing a football or a baseball, he was always up for a game. Imagine endless summer days at the beach, with his dad never running out of energy, just throwing and catching non-stop. Jack remembers, “My dad used to play on the beach, just non-stop. He went from throwing the football around to throwing the baseball around.” His dad was a true workhorse, someone who had to grind for everything he achieved. He played football in high school and college at Lake Forest College and even punted there. This laid-back yet dedicated approach shaped Jack’s early exposure to punting.

Growing up, Jack’s dad wasn’t the type to get all technical. He’d show his son how to hold the ball and tell him to kick it, no fuss. They’d be out in the front yard or the street, with Jack punting the ball to his dad. Jack shares, “He was never super technical about it. He showed me how to hold the ball and just kind of told me to kick it.” It was all about fun and learning by doing. This easy-going style instilled Jack’s love for sports and a solid work ethic. Jack reflects, “He definitely instilled my love of sports in me and probably some hard work in there too.” His dad’s influence is clear in how Jack approaches his game today.

Where did Jack Fox grow up?

Fox grew up in Olivette, Missouri, a cozy suburb of St. Louis. His childhood home was the heart of his early love for sports. He recalls long summer days playing catch with his dad in the front yard or the street. Surrounded by a supportive family that cherished outdoor activities, Jack thrived. In high school, Jack attended Ladue Horton Watkins High School, where he truly began to shine. He then joined Rice University, where he kicked and punted his way to fame.

By his sophomore year, he was the Owls’ primary punter, earning accolades like the Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Year in 2018. Despite his college success, Jack went undrafted in 2019. But he didn’t give up. The Kansas City Chiefs signed him as an undrafted free agent. Though he got cut after training camp, Jack got another shot when their punter got injured. However, it didn’t last long, and he was cut again.

Things turned around when he joined the Detroit Lions in 2019. He initially started on the practice squad but soon made the active roster. By 2020, Jack had a breakout season, earning a Pro Bowl selection and a second-team All-Pro nod. Currently, Fox is crushing it as the Detroit Lions’ punter. With an average punt distance of nearly 49 yards, he’s been a game-changer. In 2024, he averaged a long 51 yards per punt, showing he’s still got it. Fox has got two Pro Bowl selections and an All-Pro nod. His longest punt? A beastly 70 yards. Well, it’s hard to say whether the Lions are lucky or Fox as they both got each other.
