Gus Edwards is grateful to his parents! Allegedly, with his mom, Mamie, and dad Sackie Edwards’s immense support, he paved the way to the NFL. Despite facing adversities in his childhood days, he never lost hope. Clearly, his successful athletic trajectory demonstrates his preservance.

From Miami to now the Los Angeles Chargers, he nailed it in the NFL world. Impressively, Since he signed with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2018, he added several accolades to his list. Amazingly he made waves in his rookie season as a leading rusher. And, now, seemingly, he has become the solid short-yardage and goal-line option during week 13 in NFL season 2024, amid his J.K. Dobbins injury. Not only this, he recorded 1 TD for 206 YDS in the 7 games of this season. Seemingly, the former Miami player is moving forward in his career, with the tremendous backing of his parents.

Allegedly, Gus Edwards’s dad Sackie Edwards played an elemental role in shaping his career. Apparently, it was not easy for him to raise his children including Gus in a war-torn country, Liberia, West Africa. But, he flawlessly managed it. Sackie decided to immigrate to the United States to provide his family with a better and safer life.

Reportedly, Gus, 29 left West Africa when he was just 6 years old. But, seemingly, during the middle of the Liberian Civil War, it was very difficult for his dad to shift his family to the US. But, despite taking his life’s risks, he did it. Even, Sackie had to live apart from his family for several months. But, seemingly, he managed to provide food to his family. He initially served for the White Castle hamburger chain in Staten Island, N.Y. Thus, probably, his dad’s decision might have helped him shape his athletic trajectory.

And, Gus is often seen to credit his parents and his roots for becoming him what he is today. As featured in “The American Dream”’s cover story,  he expressed his gratitude for his original roots and family.  In 2021, when Edwards signed a two-year, $9 million contract extension with the Ravens with $8 million in fully guaranteed salary, his sentiments went viral.

Allegedly, after signing the deal, he immediately called his dad.  And, his dad shared a sneak peek of his  Liberia’s old house. During that moment, the NFL RB could not hide his emotions.  “It was just amazing, I was just taking it all in like, ‘Wow, this is really where I come from.’ Seeing that – God is good,” he remarked.

It indeed showcased his gratefulness for his dad and everything that he has achieved today. And, interestingly, his mom, Mamie has also great impact on his life.

Who is Gus Edwards’ mother?

Allegedly, Chargers RB shared a healthy bond with his mom, Mamie. She has been the Staunch supporter throughout his life journey. With her husband, Sackie, she raised her elder son, Josh, and daughter, Johnetta, and two other kids including Gus in difficult circumstances. Probably, the unique style of her parenting might have shaped his athletic journey.

Interestingly, for his parents’ sacrifices, Gus Edwards never failed to make them happy. In 2021, when the ex-Rutgers player signed a two-year $10 million contract extension deal with the Ravens, he gifted a new house to his parents.

Always been a dream of mine to buy my parents a house. I can finally say I did it! Thank you Ravens,” Edwards stated at that time. This indeed showcased Gus Edwards’s deep affection and love for his parents. It is no wonder that he is hopeful for his bright future just because of his parents’ steadfast support
